I saw this on another thread, and I thought it would be a great idea for us to do the same, so I am borrowing the same format they used. If you would like, post your stats, why you chose to apply to Scripps, or whatever else you want to share. :]

Be sure to take out the spaces!

^^Credit goes to KBahr for the format, it's too late for me to edit my post.

Decision: Accepted

Date Applied: Nov 15th
Date Accepted: March 28th I got my large envelope!

Stats:[ul]
[] ACT: 31, 34 English, 31 Reading, 30 Science, 29 Math
[] GPA: 3.73 uw, over 4.0 weighted
[] Rank: 20%
[] Other stats: Pending IB Certificate of Merit Student, taking all IB classes this year
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: My personal essay was, I was told, pretty interesting. For the mini essays, I thought they were fine, but not mind-blowing.
[] Teacher Recs: My history rec highlighted my leadership abilities in the classroom and my interests, so I thought it was pretty good. I was not able to read my English one, but I trust that it was also strong.
[] Counselor Rec: From the IB Coordinator, who is also my History teacher. I think it is pretty strong.
[] Extracurriculars: Varsity/State High School Swimmer, Club Swimmer, Flute, Art, Volunteering (Key Club/City Volunteering)
[] Interview: It was standard, I talked about my academic interests.
[] Hook (if any): I speak Russian at home, and am a Russian citizen. Diversity? I also was a finalist in a National contest, where I painted a giant fiberglass cow.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Washington state
[] School Type: Large public school
[] Ethnicity: white
[] Gender: female (obviously)
[/ul]Other Factors/Hook?: I submitted an athletic supplment, music supplement, and an art supplement.

Scholarships: I applied for the scholarship but was not a finalist.

General Comments:
We are now planning for an overnight stay at Scripps. Hope to see some of you there!

Decision: Accepted

Date Applied: November-ish?
Date Accepted: Well I got the official letter today in the mail, just back from my trip, but I knew I was accepted when I was notified about the opportunity to compete for a scholarship in January (I think it was?).

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2180/1420; V: 760/M: 660/W: 760
[] ACT: N/A
[] SAT IIs: Biology: 690; U.S. History: 790; Literature: 780
[] GPA: UW: 4.0; W: 4.33, went up to 4.47 (midyear report)
[] Rank: 3/719 --> (midyear report) 2/691
[] Other stats: National Merit Finalist; I.B. Diploma Candidate
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I liked mine. Thought it was pretty good. When I went for a scholarship interview with a faculty member, he even made a reference to it so I'm guessing it stood out at least.
[] Teacher Recs: one from my English teacher (jr/sr year), and one from my History teacher (jr/sr year); I saw my English teacher's and think it's pretty good
[] Counselor Rec: excellent, I thought. She is my I.B. coordinator and has known me since freshman year when she was my English teacher so she was able to really paint a good picture of me.
[] Extracurriculars: Mock Trial (4 yrs), Cross Country (2 yrs), Academic Decathlon (2 yrs), Liberty in North Korea (2 yrs), Peer Tutoring (2 yrs), The Edge -- Junior High Ministry at my local church (1 yr), Big Brothers/Big Sisters (2 yrs)
[] Interview: yes, first time as simply a prospective student with an admissions counselor and thought it went fairly well. She seemed impressed with my enthusiasm (?) I think. And second time, I was competing for a scholarship and had a interview with a faculty member. He only asked like two questions and I just went off from there and it kind of turned into a discussion more than anything else.
[] Hook (if any): not sure?
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: CA
[] School Type: public
[] Ethnicity: Filipino
[] Gender: female
[/ul]Other Factors/Hook?:

Scholarships: JES scholarship -- half-tuition scholarship renewable each year

General Comments: I love the school and am definitely leaning toward it but a big part of me still wants to go to the East Coast for college so we will see. My mother would love for me to go here though and stay in CA (Claremont is only a little over an hour away from home).

Decision: Accepted

Date Applied: before Nov. 1
Date Accepted:March 31

[] Other stats: AP tests: US History 5, Macroecon 4, Microecon 4, comp. gov 4, US Gov 3
[/ul]
Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I was told mine was a really good standout essay. I wrote on the death of my great grandma/Girls State/Norovirus which is not so disparate as it seems. lol
[] Teacher Recs: (Adv) Chem teacher Soph. & Sr. who I trust wrote something nice, and World History Teacher Sr year who wrote a lovely letter
[] Counselor Rec: We got brand new counselors this year, so she'd only known me for a month :-\
[] Extracurriculars: People to People Ambassadors, Oregon Girls State, Job at Target, Started a Knitting Club, Photography
[] Interview: 1st interview was my first-ever college interview and was nerve-racking, but my 2nd interview during scholars weekend was fantastic and more like a conversation
[] Hook (if any): Probably my participation in Girls State.
[/ul]
Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Oregon
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: F
[/ul]
Other Factors/Hook?:** I shared a room with my great grandma for 8 years. That makes me interesting, I suppose.

Scholarships: JESS, and some fantastic grants on top of that.

General Comments: Best financial aid than any other school, and probably my favorite overall. Wellesley would be much colder. I just sent my deposit into Scripps today :)

I saw this on another thread, and I thought it would be a great idea for us to do the same, so I am borrowing the same format they used. If you would like, post your stats, why you chose to apply to Scripps, or whatever else you want to share. :]

Decision: Accepted

Date Applied: January 15th
Date Accepted: March 28th

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2170 R:730 M:680 W:760
[] ACT: 31 R:35 M:30 S:30 W:36
[] SAT IIs: USHist: 690 BioM: 690 French w/List: 650 Lit:750
[] GPA: Freshman-Junior 4.3, Senior N/A Pass/Fail system
[] Rank: N/A
[] Other stats: AP tests: Euro 4, USHist 5, Comp Gov 4, Micro 4, Lang 5
[/ul]
Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I thought my essay was awesome, but I think it was a bit too unconventional for most schools.
[] Teacher Recs: I got one from my high school history teacher, who adores me, and another from my college chemistry professor, who said I was the best student in her class.
[] Counselor Rec: I have no clue. I suppose it's good though.
[] Extracurriculars: Opera singer, Progressive Club President, Junior Representative to the Democratic Executive Committee, Electric Discourse (TV show I produced), The Popular Voice Assistant Editor, Youth in Government lobbyist.
[] Interview: N/A
[] Hook (if any): I'm doing my senior year of high school at New College, the honors college of Florida.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Florida
[] School Type: small, public gifted school/small, public liberal arts college
[] Ethnicity: Jewish
[] Gender: Female (duh!)
[/ul]Other Factors/Hook?: I spent a summer in Rajasthan, India teaching 6-11 graders English, politics, and culture. I also spent four years (two years for each campaign) working as an assistant and youth coordinator for a local congressional campaign. For the past 5 years I have been attending and presenting papers at Harry Potter academic symposiums. Topics include: parent psychology, genetics, loyalty, and the anti-hero.

Scholarships: I haven't received any financial information yet.

General Comments: Scripps was the only school that accepted me, so unless I get off a wait list and decide I like one of those schools better it looks like I'm going to Scripps. I have a friend who goes there and really likes it, and my boyfriend, who goes to Pitzer, thinks I'll really like it as well.

I'm pretty excited, but I'm not too sure about Claremont (the city, not the colleges). I come from a suburban city, and I was really hoping to be able to attend a school in a big city, or at least a city with a proper public transportation service. I know Scripps is right outside of LA, but I've heard mixed things about the availability and ease of getting into the city.

Decision: Accepted

Date Applied: before November 1
Date Accepted: March 28ish?

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 610CR, 700M, 660W
[] ACT: 30COMPOSITE, 31E, 34M, 29R, 24S
[] SAT IIs: 640USH, 610MII
[] GPA: 3.923 UW
[] Rank: 34/544 (school does not weight GPAs)
[] Other stats: APexams 4USH, 5CALCAB, 3LIT, 5PSYCH
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I used an onion as a metaphor for my life.
[] Teacher Recs: One of them was really descriptive, but I didn't find it TRULY shining even though he said at the very end, "highest recommendation"- and the rankings weren't really in the "few encountered" boxes. The other one on the other hand was a bit vague, but most of the boxes were filled in the "Top 5%" or "Few Encountered" boxes...
[] Counselor Rec: Not very descriptive, but rankings were very good (mostly "Few Encountered" and a "Top 5%" or two).
[] Extracurriculars: XC (3 years, Captain, Most Inspirational for 2 years), Amnesty International (1 year, Founder, President), Key Club (4 years, Historian, VP), NHS (1 year), Diversity Committee (3 years, Secretary), volunteer at local hospital (1 yearish so far), summer volunteer at local science museum in 2007, swimming (2 years), & I think that's all I had written...
[] Interview: with an alumni- it was more of a conversation and more of me asking her way too many questions to count about her experience. But I think it went well, and she was really sweet about it.
[] Hook (if any): Um... I have no clue.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: USA
[] School Type: public
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: F.... duh.
[/ul]Other Factors/Hook?: I have no clue....

Scholarships: none; was not awarded JES. Given a decent amount of college grants in the "estimated" financial aid package, but have yet to receive a verified and final package. Should probably call them about it.

General Comments: I really do hope I am able to attend. I think my parents are leaning more and more towards me going. So hopefully I can be a Scrippsie next year and meet you all! Undecided about a major- but possibly biology/ecology or psychology. We'll see. The Keck Science Center is VERY nice. And everyone seems on top of it. When I visited, it seemed like people were incredibly intelligent. INCREDIBLY intelligent. But not necessarily competitive- although I did not meet and talk to as many science majors as I wanted to...

^^Awww an onion for you college essay...reminds me of Shrek! :)

"Onions have layers!!"

eminthesr, here's that thread I was talking about.

Very helpful ... THX all!
