Accepted!

I must say though I know a lot of people who were accepted that should not have been and vice versa.

I must say though I know a lot of people who were accepted that should not have been and vice versa.

^^ So true, lolz.

anyways....
I GOT IN TO UNC at CHAPEL HILL AS AN OOS FROM FLORIDA!!!!!
GO TARHEELS!!!!!!!!!!
out of the 21,000 that applied, only 3900 got accepted. They can only accept 82% in-state applicants and 18% out of state.
Man, I feel proud of myself. Should I email my acceptance letter to UF with a brief inquiry to reconsider their decision?

^ lol wow congrats!! I know someone with the opposite: didn't get into UNC early action but got into UF. Admissions are so weird. I wanted to go to UNC, but I didn't even apply because I figured I wouldn't get in since they hardly accept out of state. Congrats again!!

Congrats danny! I just got my appeal packet today in the mail, so I'm brainstorming what to write. It seems like you can pretty much argue anything in your letter, so I'm going to mention what I said before and maybe something along the lines of:

"Other reputable colleges and universities have recognized my academic achievement. New College of Florida accepted me with a scholarship, the University of Central Florida admitted me to their Burnett Honors College, and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign admitted me as a James Scholar--a title typically given to the top 10% of their students."

Is that too braggy, or can including it not hurt?

From what people have posted here, half the students would not be at the University under the current standards. I have had many friends make this statement. I don't know whether or not they would have gotten in, but it seems like the standards are much higher.

Being an OOS student, I am glad I got in when I got in =D

i would suggest you, dvm, to ask that question to your GC. I already sent my appeal last week to UF but am thinking of sending them a letter telling them to reconsider with my acceptance letter from UNC.
ahhhhhhhhh.......i don't know what to do! i really want to go, but its expensive for OOS! what should i do?

I'm kinda in the same situation for Illinois. I'm waiting to see if I get a good scholarship.

UF is not NCF, nor is it UNC, nor UCF, nor UIUC. All five are different schools looking for different qualities in their applicants.
danny_125 and dvm258, how do you figure that reporting decisions of other schools will help you with UF?

It demonstrates the difference between two schools and their admission process.

danny which day did you send your appeal letter?

The 7th of March

hey dvm have you recieved any scholarship information yet? they gave me 12K every year and i got 2k for my freshman year just recently, hopefully they will send me a couple more and hen icombine it with financial aid, we'll see if its better than UF. but i'm guessing that they are already notifying people of there scholarships

You guys are lucky. I have not received any scholarships and I am OOS. Thats a lot of money. My sister's in college too, so that does not help

I'm not sure exactly when I'll get information on scholarships if I even get any. I was admitted as a James Scholar, so I'm hoping for something. I'm aiming for the 12k scholarship as well. It's the only OOS scholarship they have, so I actually have no other amount I could aim for. Really, if they also had a 7k scholarship I would be fine with that. I just need them to beat the price I'm being offered at Miami, which is actually cheaper right now because of their scholarship and bright futures.

Most of the time you can apply for little scholarships. There are some that you can apply for that pertain to "military brats with a grandfather thats Irish" or something like that. There are really obscure ones that most people don't know about that people can apply for. I would recommend the Princeton Review version. It has a description for lots of scholarships. You can find one that you fit and apply. Most Floridians use Bright Futures as their main source of funding.

To add to the overall picture: A friend of mine just got accepted to Boston College RD after getting denied by UF (Applied before Nov 1)

Got acceptance letter into the MS in MSE yesterday.

Wow, 16 pages.
