Official 2010 Engineering Graduate School Results

It seems the Harvard name can perform wonders.

sefago–It DEF made a difference that my GPA was a 3.85 in junior/senior years, and a 3.91 in senior year. I talked to the director of admissions, who basically told me there was no way I’d have been admitted if not for that improvement. My overall chemistry/physics/science GPA was 3.5, below their informal cutoff. I failed freshman and some of sophomore year miserably, as Harvard was a big step up in difficulty from high school.

firwar–i applied in chemistry, notified by email :)

Update: I just got unofficial acceptance to Berkeley (prof emailed me, told me I was in).

Just got unofficial acceptance to Stanford in a similar manner to my previous post today.

@lizzardfire

Congrats! What is your area of specialization within EE ?

Thanks. My profile is on page 2, but in case you don’t want to click that far back:

“MEMS/plasmonics/photonic crystals as applied to energy”

And I guess this is as good a place as any to share another update: I just found out I’m a Hertz finalist! One more round…

Accepted to Northwestern MS&E. Prof. called me today.

What is an unofficial acceptance?

In my case, it means a professor on the admissions committee contacted me and told me I was in, but I have not received a formal offer of admission (i.e. letter or email) from the department.

For those of you who have already heard back, how early did you get your apps in? Waiting to hear on my S’s applications. He didn’t get his apps in until shortly before the deadline and hasn’t heard from anyone yet.

I sent in my applications 12/31-1/1 and have already been accepted in Stanford, Northwestern and MIT. They get back to you pretty quickly :D

Tigershark for what program? Also could you post your stats, I am dying with fear from the wait. So scared I am not going to get in anywhere

M’sMom, this stuff is really program dependent.

MSE, but MIT is in a different department.

How important are phone interviews everyone?

M’sMom I applied to 9 schools, right before the deadline, and I heard back from 6, and still waiting for 3. it’s very department and school-dependent. I have heard that some schools/departments don’t let you know until late feb. you could call the department admissions counselor and ask if they’ve sent out any decisions yet or the status of your son’s application.

Sefago…they’re very important…lol.

Well i wasn’t informed about this phone interview it was really abrupt man ■■■.

Is this usually the case? This was quite an informal interview but i was totally unprepared- it was 7pm, I was coming back from lab and looking forward to a good nap and zoom phone rings, I think its my mum-interveiw

Has anybody got an official acceptance from Stanford or UCB (EE)??

I suggested to DS that he contact schools to check on status of applications. He about bit my head off and said that was not an option as schools he applied to strongly discouraged students from doing so. Guess I’ll have to wait awhile longer and I am not a patient person! Keep having dream (nightmare) that he’ll end up back at home.
He has good stats (3.64 GPA in Civ Eng. from top 20 school and good test scores, 790 math, 580 verbal) Has applied to 9 or 10 schools ranging from state flagship to MIT and everything in between. Surely someone will want him. Anyone??? PLEASE!!

I got my official acceptance (EE) from Berkeley yesterday. Stanford’s decisions have not gone out yet.
