Well, if they don’t reject you immediately then it’s assumed you are on some unofficial or official waitlist. This means you still have a chance of being accepted if others reject the offer.

Two (unfortunate) pieces of news:
The acceptance email said the number of applicants this year was 600+. The average for the past couple years was ~350 (official statistics). Pretty huge jump, so it could mean they’re still processing applications. But it could also mean they’re already done since it will be relatively easier to fill the incoming class with highly competitive students this year.

The latter is likely since Northwestern MSE’s deadline for visiting weekend RSVP was Feb. 9 (visiting dates March 11 and April 1). So the number of PhD acceptances from here on out will be very low if not zero since they seem to put a lot of emphasis on meeting faculty and getting a good match.

MIT(waiting)

Georgia Tech(accepted with full funding(RA or TA) 1/31)
UCLA(accepted 2/11)

All acceptances with funding. I’m pretty much choosing between Texas and Stanford. I’ll update again with the final results and which one I picked sometime in April.

For some reason they didn’t update mine. Kinda silly since acceptances were all sent around Feb 10 so it’s an open secret as to who was rejected.

I just called. Apparently I was waitlisted at MIT EECS and the letter got lost or sent to the wrong address or something. This is somewhat upsetting because the chances of getting off of it are tiny (maybe 1-2 out of the 50 that are on it). It’s better to be told that you’re not good enough, since that was always under your control (and there are always people out there better than you). Instead I have to wait another 2 months and it’s entirely random and out of my hands. Sucks to be denied something very valuable due to chance. Very bitter right now. lol…

Oh well, maybe a miracle will happen and I’ll be one of the 1 or 2 lucky people.

I’m a mechanical engineering major and I know MIT accepted a few guys like in Feb 11 and rejected a few guys on Feb 10 but I didn’t get a reply.

And reading posts from you EE majors, it seems like the doors are shut for me as well?
Are they still analyzing applications or am I in the waiting list and they will let me know some time soon the inevitable. It will suck if I am put on a waiting list cuz I was put in a waiting list when I applied to MIT as a high school student.

Which one is it? Is there a chance that I will still get in…or am I already put in a waiting list (which in essence is delayed rejection)??

Just got a response from Purdue… time to go to school and have some long talks with my advising professors. Note that if I go to Purdue I would only have to pay in-state tuition, which is significantly less. However, Notre Dame does have an excellent reputation all around and they want to give me lots of money.

Applying for MS/PhD at:

Notre Dame - EE - accepted, with funding (2/15)
UIUC - ECE - still waiting
Purdue - ECE - accepted, no funding (2/21)
Illinois Tech - ECE - still waiting, but not too concerned

Someone got in MIT for MechE masters on Feb 23 (today)…if I don’t get it today…is that it for me??
Do they send emails altogether at once…or no?

Has anyone hear about CalTech for the Masters program in Aeronautics? Haven’t seen any sign of life from them but I haven’t received a rejection letter either.

@brahmin, it could mean ur on the waitlist or ur still in the running for a spot. i think if u haven’t received a rejection letter yet, ur still in the running.
