*Official 2012 AP World History Thread*

Honestly, the AP Exam is not that hard. I got a 5 last year and found Biology to be way harder.

I don’t know about studying a review book 3 nights before and getting a 5, but if you spent your year understanding the material thoroughly, the AP World History Exam will be one of the easier exams.

The AP World History exam is in less than 3 weeks away now! Here’s a link to the official College Board practice exam:

Does anyone know how 54 multiple choice questions correct on a Princeton Review practice test compares to the real thing?

I thought the Princeton Review Multiple Choice for 2010 (if that’s your edition) was much harder than last year’s actual exam. 54/70 puts you in a very good position to get a 5, as long as you can score reasonably high on your essays.

I have the 2012 edition but what scores on the essays do I need to get a 5?

Any predictions on free response questions?

Hey guys, I’m taking World next week, too. What are you all doing to prepare? I’ve been reading and highlighting PR. I think I’ll take a few practice tests as well.

I’ve been taking notes on the Princeton Review while reading. I’m probably going to read the PR again before Thursday. I might skip on Monday to study more. I’m very scared because I don’t know dates for most things, yet I know the content.

There isn’t as much emphasis on the dates as there are on the content. Just be sure to know the order of things.

That’s what I thought, but my teacher keeps telling us that if we are slightly out of the time period in a free response, then we will get a zero. Is this extremely true?

You don’t need to know the date to know what period it is in!

True. And by the way, should the order of each Chinese dynasty be memorized? I know what most of the major ones did, such as the Han, Qin, Tang, so on and so forth.

@Awflapkackz if it isn’t a hassle, could you tell me what key events or what major points happened in each Chinese Dynasty?

Like I know the Qin dynasty was very short, and they built the Great Wall and implemented Legalism in their system, but what about the rest?

Coming from the top of my head, it probably won’t be great. But I’ll give it a shot.

Shang: river valley civilization on Yellow River, thought they were at center of the world. Did well agriculturally

Zhou: mainly same traditions as Shang, believe in Mandate of Heaven, bureaucracies established

Qin: Legalism, short, Great Wall of China. Their leader was Qin something…I don’t quite remember. Peasants hate Legalism, overthrow the ruler.

Han: Trade highly important. Use of Silk Road to trade with Mediterranean, such as the Romans. Cultural diffusion on trade routes. Civil service exam created, Confucianistic ideology. Create paper. Internal struggle and invasions of outside forces lead to decline

Tang: expanded China, use of the tribute system to force other Asian countries to recognize supremacy of Chinese

Song: I think they came right after the Tang…I don’t remember much about them. Foot binding began here, that’s all I know.

Yuan: the Mongols. Highly nomadic and were brutal. They did not impose religion on those it conquered, but assimilated with the cultures taken over. Genghis Khan initiates Mongol takeover, establishes hordes in China, Russia, etc. Timur Lang overthrew the sultanate in India, but did not get far and the sultanate was recreated after Timur left. The Mongols increased spread of ideas because conquered peoples could maintain their cultures. Stabilized the Silk Road.

Ming: kick out remaining Mongols and establish a traditional Chinese emperor with Confucian ideas. economy failed and led to decline

Manchu: AKA the Qing. Not exactly Chinese. Focused on expanding in Asia, but began isolation

I think that’s about it…I had to verify that I had the order correct haha. But my info is not great, considering I studied these about a week ago. Europe began colonizing China after these

Hey mine is also on thur may 17 we start at 8 but we have to be at school by 7:15 to do paper work I’m so ready for the exam yet a little.scared to .Well good luck!

Anyone taking the subject test as well?

I am…I heard its harder than the ap mc.

I’m taking the subject test. Hoping for an 800 because of the nice curve. I have a lot of studying to do, though.
