New thread for next year. join and spread your insight. Need any help possible as there isn’t much on Ap World on the internet

I’m taking this next year too! Glad you started this, I’ll be a junior and then I’m planning on taking the World Subject test too! How do you think we should be preparing for a successful year? What should we read/do this summer, does your school offer any summer prep that you could post. My school does for almost every subject…BUT ap world. Also, what review book to get for next year?

I’m planning on doing this next year too. I’ll have to start over the summer because my school only offers an honors non-AP version that only covers Medieval+. I think I can do it though. My course load isn’t that bad for sophomore year and I’ve already taken APUSH so at least I know what I’m getting myself into. I’ll also be doing the subject test. If anyone has any suggestions let me know. I’ll be purchasing an exam study guide and a used AP textbook for this summer.

I took the AP World History class this year(and the exam obviously.) and I found the AP exam not as hard as I expected. It was my first about and I was pretty nervous about the test, but after taking the exam I felt great about myself. To be honest I feel the main reason I feel I did well was not because of the class, but itstead my dedication to studying for the exam. I procrastinated reading the textbook for the whole year(which I do not suggest you doing) and read 34 chapters in 5 weeks. I used the textbook and review book my school provided which were the Traditions and Encounters 3rd edition textbook and the McGraw Hill reviewbook. I found both really usefull, buth I am sure that there is better review books out there. I am not sure what the best textbook is, but the one I used covered pretty much all the topics pretty well. Just make sure you read the textbook and you will be fine. Hell I heard some people do extremely well just using the review books. For the essays on the test, just make sure you know how to write the essays correctly and with your background knowledge, you should be able to achieve atleast 4-6 points.

Well, it’s senior year and the last of the three ‘legit’ AP History courses to take, so I’m excited. Well, at least marginally more excited than I was for Euro, especially since we had summer reading homework for Euro. Already done with Euro and APUSH, one 5 already achieved and likely another 5 on its way. :D

Some suggestions for people who are taking WHAP this year.
Barron’s AP World History review book is more in-depth but it also provides a lot of information that isn’t really on the test. But if you want to do the best you can, then by all means, go ahead.

“Cracking the AP World History Exam” Princeton Review book, however, is much more simpler to read. A lot of people say that they have gotten 5’s with this one. I checked it out and if you read it, you’ll have a solid foundation.
Both of these are the top review books, but I heard Kaplan was pretty good also.

Not looking forward to studying the essays after doing APUSH

i heard world was a joke compared to apush

Yay! I hope its a joke lol!

lol heard its a joke too. it only has 4 choices not 5 making it all the more easier. I just got my summer hw for next yr. we have to get the princeton review book, get and read Guns, Germs, steel by Jared Diamond. I also got the Rea all access book. will also get the crash course since it REALYYYY helped me get a 5 on apush and 800 and SAT2. Soph and going to take ap world. Am i alone?

I am self studying. I have a list of books thats should guarantee a 5. With the textbook and the selected review books (they were the ones recommended on here), they should be around $150. TB: Traditions and Encounters RB’s: Cracking, Barron’s Flash, 5 Steps to a 5, Crash Course, and 5 Steps 500 questions. Hope this helps some of you searching around! BTW I am kind of new here, so can someone try to explain to me how to post a thread? I have looked around and it is a bit confusing.

I’m using Stearns’ 4th edition (World Civ) and would like to know what else I should use to supplement this if it’s not up to par with the current test (which I doubt; it’s from 2006).

I used the Princeton Review and it was very helpful. All the info was relevant and it helped a lot with the exam. The practice tests are harder than the actual exam so you’ll be well prepared.

I took this last year. I was a freshman and it was my first AP. Don’t take the course lightly. I would spend two to three hours each weekend doing notes from my textbook. This was required by my teacher to turn in. However, you could get by without a textbook but you’re probably better off using that and a review book. I got a 4, though feel as if I deserved a 5. It is upsetting, but I know that I would not have gotten my score without the Princeton Review. Buy this. Take practice tests.

I did not like Barron’s. It was highly unorganized and superfluous. I guess it depends on your style, but I gave up reading that. Princeton was much more enjoyable.

Using Princeton before class tests is always a good strategy, especially before and after taking notes from a textbook. Leading up to the exam, I read through the PR and took notes, read again while highlighting, and got through about three more time periods a third time just skimming over. Understand themes throughout world history and know major concepts about most civilizations and you’ll be good as long as you can write thoughtful essays. It’s not too bad, but it isn’t necessarily a blow off. Good luck!

how does it compare to the SAT WH.

APUSH is easier than World, but both are among the easiest AP exams there are.

My school only offers WH Honors, but I’m considering taking he AP test. I took APUSH last year, and my class wasn’t very challenging and I honestly didn’t study that much for the exam (just read crash course once and only wrote two practice DBQs and two FRQs that weren’t even graded), but I got a 4. I’m pretty confident that if I really prepare this time, I could get a high score on APWH as well. The only concern is that I won’t be taking the AP version of the class. Plus, my school will offer AP US Government and Politics. I would like to take this class too, but I can only choose between World History Honors and AP US Govt. But I want to take exams for both. If I self study for one, what would be a better option? Should I take WHH, and self study for US Govt or take AP US Govt class and self study for APWH??

My teacher was awful but I studied religiously out of my Princeton Review book and got a 5. The essays were pretty easy. Good luck!

I did poorly on SAT WH. That’s a very specific test.

You guys are very naive to think AP World is easy. It is not. It has the lowest rate of 5’s of any other AP Exam. You can get a 5 of course but by no means take it as a joke.
