****Official 2013 Harvard Waitlist Thread****

I concur with pokerface. My representative even took the time to look at my file before giving me further recommendations on what to do next.

Best of luck to everyone!

Haha, so what was it that they said?

She said to write a letter of my recent accomplishments and love of Harvard.

Lets bring some stats in again (yes I am a master of statistics). For fun (“fun”), I did alot of different algorythms and **** regarding statistics just to have something to do in this eagerful and nervwrecking time.

2012

Last year’s admitted students (round 1 without waitlistees): 1948
Number of first round accepted students who accepted the offer: 1488
Classize: 1658
Number of spots left: 170
Number of accepted (round 1 + waitlistees): 2175
Number of accepted waitlistees: 227
Waitlistyield: 74.89%

2013

This year’s admitted students (round 1 without waitlistees): 2046
Number of first round accepted students who accepted the offer: 1555
Classize: 1668
Number of spots left: 113
With a waitlistyield of 74.89% around 151 should be offered admission from the waitlist.

However, this is only calculating a yield from last year, the waitlistyield could result in 50% or 100% no one can predict such a figure. Furthermore, some accepted students will choose to deferr one year (some 2 years), and we will also have those who will be put on the Z-list. On the downside there may be still some postmarked acceptances that have not arrived yet. Even though it’s not a super year as last year to be a waitlistee it’s still a good year. Lets be hopeful! :)

I also like how this waitlistthread has more views than the decisions thread :D

thx for the optimistic post, reptil  how many ppl do you imagine actually are on the waitlist? the word goes about 700-800…

^^great stats reptil.

just wondering though, where did you find the information that the class size will be 1668? i saw 1655 on a couple articles.

^it could be anywhere between 700 and 1500 waitlisted students. let’s hope it’s closer to 700-800 though.

I would say around 1,000-1,300 were offered a spot on the waitlist and between 650 and 850 accepted their spot.

huh, 650 would be awesome, that would be like 1 in 4 gets an offer  I wish…

I’m in psych class and I really can’t focus. The adrenaline’s pumping  hope bio is going well for those of you taking it.

…just joined and wanted to thank all of you for great insight and support. Good luck to all of you and thanks for the stats!

do you think Harvard cares if I won the $2500 NM scholarship? I forgot to put that down on my update lol. Maybe I should send another one?

also, in the other update I sent, I didn’t put down how much I loved Harvard because I thought that would be sort of taken for granted. I didn’t know that they considered interest important…

Sending another update will only signal signs of red bells. They would think that you only did a hasty first update untill you found out that you could do more (since someone told you). And this is not going to look that good. Besides, such a scholarship I would not believe would make or break your app.

yeah, it is a minor thing so I’ll just forget about it

good luck guys!!

I think it’s about 1,400 or fewer that have ultimately opted to remain on the waiting list.

^^ how do you know?

If you google " “Harvard club of” waitlist " (with quotes) you can see how many are on the waiting list. Looking at that, if proportions are consistent with what’s posted, and there were 2046 admits, there should be around 2150 offered spots on the waiting list. 2/3 would be 1440, more or less. so we will see.

Calls, if any are made today, will probably start in 2 hours or so.

Which proportions are you talking about? Sry, i culdnt get that to work for me.

Didnt they say that princetons 1300 person waitlist was larger than all of its peer institutions which means Harvard and all should be lower?

why do you think so, lolcats?
