hey everyone

i’m in southern california and a harvard alum called me yesterday to set up a second interview on monday.

what could this mean? has anyone been offered another interview?

No. I thought my first one went so well too…

"Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune–without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I’ve heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me."

^^^squirrl that’s probably a good sign. they might be interested in you and want to make sure that you’re a good fit? just a guess, but I’m almost sure that’s a good sign. good luck :)

keep up the hope guys. today could be the day :)

squirrl - D received a second interview during regular decision process and so did her friend from the same HS. D actually was giving a third interview before she even left. Both D and Her friend were admitted. That was not necessarily the norm across all the CCers that received multiple interviews. The conclusion in my mind was that it meant the applicant was someone that they were serious but on the fence about. Of the CCers in RD, most who got the second/third interviewed were either accepted or waitlisted. Of course, for the waitlist round there is only accepted or rejected. All in all, you should be excited. Here is a link to a thread I began right after RD decisions to try and compile some results.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/681646-significance-late-multiple-harvard-interviews.html

Eventually it would be interesting if you would add your final decision from Harvard to that thread since as yet I have never seen CC post of a second interview waitlisted applicant (though I may just not have found it). It would be nice historical information for future applicants.

Good luck!

Correct. That is the anticipated end of the first round of waitlist decisions. One can reasonably infer that the largest group of waitlist admits will happen by the end of the day on Tuesday.

Although tomorrow is the end of the first round, there MAY still be additional admits. As waitlist people decline, or original acceptances withdraw (Harvard not their #1 choice, and their #1 choice accepted them off the waitlist), then additional spots MAY be available. It is reported that Harvard anticipates finalizing the class by July 1. If so, they should notify you by July 1 that they are no longer taking waitlist students.

It is possible that they may make Z-List offers to some of the remaining kids on the waitlist. The Z-list is an offer of admissions, but matriculation is deferred until next year. Those admissions could be offered to kids they really like, but don’t have room for, or for “high profile” students that they can’t afford to reject. I presume they hope that a “high profile” kid will decline, rather than be deferred a year. But, at least they can say they didn’t reject the kid.

I would take that as a good sign. It might also give you a good shot at the Z-list (deferred admit).

Try to figure out: 1) What Harvard liked about you (what made you stand out from the other high performing kids); and 2) What they might have been concerned about. Try to address those issues in the 2nd interview. Tell them something they haven’t heard yet.

last year this time, Harvard already released its update on the waitlist progress. Why it doesn’t say anything this time?

Squirll - another thread you might like to look at is the thread made up of posts by second interview CCers from both before and after their second interviews:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/652256-second-interview.html

My daughter (CA) is also waitlisted. Thanks for all this info & updates. Good luck to all.

No pressure today, guys.

For what it’s worth, according to a Harvard alumni, Canada is being looked at, presumably with Japan, South Korea, etc. starting today. Apparently, the process could go until mid-June.

This contradicts everything we’ve been hearing about the May 20th deadline or whatever, but who am I to know what’s right?

When’s their lunch break? ^_^

The crimson said the 19th was the end of the first round. I think that’s accurate, but of course the process does draw on through june…

Yeah, I suppose, but then, wouldn’t they say it could go on until July 1, not till mid-June?

Haha I’m definitely not banking on anything today, or soon, that’s for sure. From the thread last year, the Canadians got a call on the 29th or something. Ugh.

What? Canadians have had to wait until the 29th in the past? ARRGGGGHHHH! Sigh Well, it seems like it’s another week and a half of fretting for me…

ahhh nothing is making sense!

The only thing we can trust as of this point is what they have posted in their articles since all the info various members have received from the admissions office is contradicting. Also what alumni say contradicts what the office says.

Start: May 8
End: July 1

No call or letter in between, too bad :(

About 85 if not more will get happy news, which is indeed posted on the Crimson.

I also love how almost every time I turn to the Harvard forum our waitlist topic is the most recently posted in :D

We’re lagging a little behind last year’s thread. Pick it up, people. ;)

man!..all the conflicting messages make me incredibly nervous…somehow knowing that Canada is being discussed today is keeping me from doing any work what so ever :P

…not to mention that i gotta do calculus of all subjects :P

Serendipity…did the harvard alum say anything about how many were waitlisted from canada? etc.?

How close are we to beating last year’s thread? Not that it really matters, but it keeps my mind off of the anxiety…

Anyone heard today?

Nothing. But it is a weekday and they made calls this last saturday, so who knows, they may call late-afternoon-ish. They must have reached a point where they can start releasing some decisions, right?
