*"Official" 2013 USABO*

Personally, I actually like biodiversity.
Not only does it make me feel smart, but I find it quite interesting :D

It is true that there’s an almost unbalanced portion of it in Campbell’s though. I sometimes wish it went into so much depth about other topics as well- but I guess that’s what other books are for.

In my region, Science Olympiad is really easy. Or maybe I’m lucky.
I easily place top 10’s with little to no studying.
Of course, USABO knowledge does come in handy.

I’m going to ask my bio teacher if the school offers USABO tests without looking like a fool. (I’ll probably end up looking like one.) I pretty sure my school doesn’t, but registration starts Monday, right?

I am doing USABO this year and I am reasonably good at biology but I have absolutely no access to labs…does this hinder me from doing well at semis and finals?

^Trig, you should look up labs online! There’s so many videos that have cool bio labs! And if you study really hard, then you won’t need to worry TOO much about the labs I guess. But yeah, there’s so many great labs online if you just search! Let me know if you need any help looking for any! They’ll probably be too in-depth, but who cares? It’s still biology!

I can’t take the USABO this year T.T No one at my school to sponsor it. How is the studying going, you guys?

Why can’t you take it at a different school?

So registration begins Monday? Better tell my science teacher…
Speaking of which, has the website login stopped working? I’m assuming that it has because of the new registration, but I just want to make sure it’s not just me.

@MathGuy: Wow, that really sucks. Is there nothing you can do about it?

MathGuy777, will you give me some websites that have great online biology labs? Please give all the websites you know!

Also it really sucks that no one is sponsoring you for USABO…do they not like the idea of USABO?

quick question-does everyone memorize all the amino acid side chains?

@Mansu007 I spent 4-5hours a week reading the textbook the last whole year so now I only need to revise some details :)

@Mathguy777: I thought you can take it at another school? Does your school not do it because of the $75 fee? :(

@trig1968: no… I remember being given the table last year.

Hey, does anyone know the timeline for this year’s USABO?

@trig: it probably depends on who you define as “everyone” :D. I bet some people have them memorized but probably the majority doesn’t.

^ It’s here [CEE | USABO 2013 Calendar](http://www.usabo-trc.org/currentcalendar.php)

Btw, is there anyone also planning to participate in USNCO? xD

thanks pleiotropy!

@Mansu: Sure! Might take a while though, I’m kinda busy  I guess not haha.

@pleiotropy: You can, but I live in Florida, and you can see that not many schools (compared to those in other states) participate in USABO. I’m pretty sure I’m the only student who knows enough about USABO. So yeah, I was going to start a club and hopefully, if >15 people joined, then we would only have to pay ~5-10$ (material costs included). My teacher says that she’s too busy and she doesn’t know anybody who would be willing to sponsor our club (holding practice meetings). LOL, I could just hold them at our school library or something O.o

Trig: Because no school is participating (yet). If I convince my teacher, we would be the first school in my city to enter the contest.
Btw, I don’t really know the side chains for amino acids. Thank goodness we weren’t required to in AP Biology… :)

AspiringBioGod: I KNOW. Nope. But I’ll just cry and weep with my C+R Bio textbook every day. T.T

@MathGuy777: aw I sympathize with you. I’m trying to hold USNCO at my school and no one is really interested in joining T_T I’m glad I have an amazing Bio teacher who goes all the way to ask our school for funding so I can join USABO.

and if you are able to found a club (I hope!), what will you do at meetings? studying and worshiping the Campbell gods? labs?

btw gosh i just learnt that you’re a freshman…so your ambition is pretty amazing xD

Is it typically better to go thorough through cambpells slowly memorizing every detail, or to go faster and read multiple times?

Pleiotropy: AWWW THANKS  I would so join USNCO if I was at your school! LOL my AP Bio teacher is…

Bahahaha, probably xD Actually, everyone I know (except me) hates Campbell with a passion… :stuck_out_tongue: Labs, hand-outs, etc.

Haha thanks! I just <3 biology haha

Lol guys i’m stuck on the invertebrates chapter there’s so much to memorize gahh
