Did anyone take the New Jersey Biology league exam today? What did you think of the Bio II exam? They have changed the format and I thought it was tougher than last yearās exam. Any clue what the highest score might be?

Some of students at my school said that they will finish Campbell Biology within monthā¦is it even possible?

You can read it in a month definitely

I can do 2~3 chapters a day and still have enough time to revise

I already read the Campbell several times.

Has anyone used the Study Guide for Campbell Biology or Cliff notes for final review before the

Open Exam?

I just checked several books from the library to use them as a last review before the test.

I saw someone post this before, but Iām quite frankly too lazy to look through pages of posts, so who do I contact if I need to go to a different school to take the open exam?

Has anyone used CEEās Student Resource Center and the textbook called āEssential Cell Biologyā?

@mansu007 - I just write notes and then go over concepts and reread over notes. For me, reading over notes saves me more time than reading over the book because I exclude examples and stuff (Iām not allowed to use a highlighter so I go writing notes instead). And whilst doing this I just read the book a couple times a bit more if Iām not sure. Then I shouldāve remembered :D. But Iām just doing it fast because I donāt have enough time because I have to spend time remembering the littlest of details, as there are random stuff like the nucellus which got me frustrated.

I am taking the open exam in February. How is your preparation going? What are you guys focusing on for last minute cramming, etc? I studied immunoglobulins/immune function today as well as the amino acid properties (negative side chains, etc.)

I am done with the Campbell and MBOC.

Since exam is less than three weeks, what should I do to prepare for it?

Should I read books like Study Guide for Campbell Biology, Cliffs AP Bio, Schaum, or what?

2010 and 2011 USABO open exams have problems with multiple correct answers.
But 2012 open exam problems with only one correct answer.
What will be 2013 open exam problems: one correct answer or multiple correct answers?

@techguru: Where did you get the 2012 open exam from? Is it in the teacherās resources?

I got it from our school teacher.

Do anyone know how long is the Open Exam. Can we use calculators for the problems?

I love Ravenās Biology of Plants <3333 So fun :D

besthope11,

Open Exam is 50 minutes. Calculator is not allowed at all.

So when are you all taking your Bio-Olympiads?

I am taking it next Thursday since my school has a short day that day. I am hoping that the third time is the charm. Iāve missed Finals by 2 points for 2 years in a row. Iām curious whether CEE will stay with a harder Open Exam like last year (cutoff 24) or if they will make an easier one with a cutoff around 28-30.

Just wondering, what have you been doing for prep? Despite reading through campbells, I still find a lot of the questions to be really random at times and not pertain to anything that I can remember

The USABO exams are meant to be challenging. That is why last year the highest score in the US on the Open Exam was 42/50 and on the Semifinals Exam was about 170/247.If you have thoroughly mastered Campbellās then you will get through to the Semifinal round and maybe even the Finals. My best advice is to take practice tests and study the concepts behind the questions that you missed. For example, last yearās Open Exam had a substantial number of difficult biochemistry questions. I had to reasons them out to get the correct answer but for this year Iāve cracked open a biochem book and Iām more familiar with lipids and other membrane components.
