"Official" 2014 USABO thread

Don’t discuss; its just 2 weeks until you find out your score, and discussing won’t increase your score.

What is usually the cutoff score in terms of a percentage?

When you guys say you did “bad” on part C, do you mean like you guessed on pretty much all of it? Cause that’s what I did lol.

Also just like to reiterate to NOT give away ANY answers. It’s hard to tell who’s taken the test and who hasn’t.

I gave a real answer for the first part, but for the second and third parts I mostly guessed. I ended up getting lucky on the last part because what I guessed was actually the right answer. What I’m worried about is that there were probably 20+ people who happened to know the answers for part C, and that makes a huge difference because that is where most of us lost points.

I still don’t get why 3 questions testing a very narrow scope of knowledge (actually, the last question was a very good one) should be worth more than all of part A and 30+ part B questions, the latter of which can prove one’s understanding of biology a LOT more.
lol I sound like a lil ■■■■■■ complaining so much sigh

Part C was eassssy guys!! I think I got 75% + on part C! :)

Part C may cause top 20 to be a crapshoot by testing such a small subset of biology and weighing it so much
I mean at least can we have each part on c equally weighted, etc, etc?

i misread part c number 1…so mad…that small question worth 10 points…and number 2 was worth way too many points for such a narrow scope of knowledge…wow…

How many points was part C actually worth? Someone told me 30 but it seemed like more.

65

also pm me if you want to talk about the test. you’ll have to prove that you took it

!!! Has it always been worth that much?

From taking past semifinals, it was nowhere near 65 in the past.

Wow so the people that did know how to do part C got a huge boost.

yep

Ah well… I guess I never really actually had hope for camp. But just knowing that if I knew two specific things I might have made finals…

It was worth 65 points.

I’m so depressed now. I feel very cheated by cee at this point. How can they give a national test with questions on a very narrow scope and high weight? Need to cry out loud that they do something with the Part C weight.

I guess blame NSQ for making such a hard test!!! I think she leads the test-making team or something.

They have thrown out questions in the past. Based on the number of people that bombed part C, I would assume that they will need to throw out some of the short answer questions this year.
