I’m kind of upset about the math. If I would have done better, I probably could have squeezed out a 35. This is my first time taking the ACT, would anybody recommend retaking it if you messed up on one section? I’m not sure if I can get as high on the other sections if I retake it, though I’m pretty confident I could do better in math. Is it worth the time/money?

Joedirt - I would recommend retaking it. I had a very similar situation - 34 composite first time with a 36 E/35 M/35 R/30 S. I took one practice test and got a 36 the next time. You’re in an even better position if you can maintain your scores because Math is the easiest section to improve. Just do a ton of practice on it and you can score in the 34-35 range, and since the reading curve was harsh, you might be able to pick up a point or two there. That being said, if you don’t think you can keep up the other sections, don’t retake. You have a fantastic score and can get in anywhere with it… Good luck!!!

Do you think its a good thing that my scores only differ by 2 points at the most between my 30 reading/science and 28 reading? It makes me feel like i have no true strength, yet maybe it could be taken as a well-rounded student?

Thanks 10scholar. I think I might retake it, but I’ll wait until the summer, when I don’t have SAT/Finals/AP tests to study for. A 35 or 36 would be nice, albeit a bit overkill, lol. It wouldn’t help all that much with college admissions, it’d just be more of a personal accomplishment.

Should I retake, especially if I am aiming for HYPSM. My GPA is hovering at a 4.73 and have quite a lot of other well rounding factors, but is this score sufficient enough for me not to bother retaking nor taking the SAT I?

A 33 is an excellent score. Before taking an SAT I, perhaps you should to a practice SAT test from College Board’s Blue Book to see if you will like the SAT better?

@Derivate, I don’t think you’ll need to take it again…unless you think you can improve easily and get a point or two higher…
but your score’s great

I think I might be able to improve a point or two, I was kinda rushed on the science since it was the first time I ever took an ACT. My SAT I is fairly low at a 2010, but if I decided to not retake the ACT, would a 33 stand if applying for HYPSM?

In the end is it worth it for an extra point? Isn’t the SAT equivalent of a 33 already 2200ish?
I guess a 34 is better, but I am afraid I might lose a few points in English/Reading since I think i got lucky this time.

Even if you do go down a point or so, you can just send in the 33. I would say that if your willing to spend the time and money, go for it. A 33 is solid, so only try and improve. If you dont improve, send in your 33

I was a standby tester for the April 4th test date. I still don’t see my scores posted yet. Anyone else in the same boat? Which standbys have already gotten their results? Just curious! Thanks!

lol i took the ACT cuz im a failure at SAT. i didnt study for either one of them
