Hey everyone, I wanted to make an official thread for people to talk about what they are doing/studying and what they are aiming for to prepare for the exam since it is coming up soon.

Good idea! I Was looking for a thread like this. Well I’m pretty much behind on the studying since school has just started and I’m loaded with 4 AP classes and college apps in between. I did start studying, though, in June and have managed to raise my score from a 27 to a 29. I’m still working on the science section, which is what’s bringing me down every time. I’m getting 30+ in R, E, and M, but the S I can’t seem to get above a 26. Any tips? I’m really hoping for a 30+ on the exam so it’ll at least look decent.

I have the same exact problem antara! M E and R are all 30 or above but my science keeps dragging my comp down.

Yeah I know how you feel… I am loaded up on 8 AP classes for my Senior year as well as clubs/sports (17 total) and it’s really hard to find time to study except on the weekends. I think all 3 of us are struggling most with the science. I am around the 29-31 range for science and it is the only thing keeping me from getting 33+. I am using Barron’s 36 and PR 1296 to practice for it since I ran out of tests in the Real ACT Book. 17 total AP classes for all 4 years I meant

My first act score was 24W, 33M, 31R, 30S with a grand score of 29
I studied all summer and on the redbook I get 31W 33M 34R 30S

Writing and science are my killers, I need a 33+ because I want to go to UCLA

In June I got 24W 26R 28S 36M. really need tips on how to FINISH reading four passages & all 40 questions in just 35 mins as well as getting a high score!

Dont understand how you guys can load up on so many AP classes. My class schedule is still pretty tough for me, i got anatomy/physiology,spanish 4,AP lit, leadership, physics and 2 college class. Im struggling stil haha i need to find time to study

What do you recommend looking at to review for the math? I have a 32-33 on
Math and I want a 34+, but I always get questions in 50-60 that mess me up on the real test. I get 34-36 on practice tests, but I never get the same types of questions on the real thing… and I’m a math person. I have Barron’s 36 and PR 1296 if you didn’t already know.

How’s everyone feeling? Nervous, excited? Feel like you prepared a lot or not at all?

Im so nervous, its like my last chance because i have so much things left to do and ACT is only a small part of it. I studied for a YEAR! a friggin year and my score didnt improve that much, i blame my public school. My first test composite i got a 23 and second one i got a 27. I just wanna bang my head against a table

what schools you trying to go to?

I’m taking the September 21 and October 26 date. I expect a 29-31 for the September date and a 32-35 for the October date. I’m studying really hard for the next month or so. I really NEED a 33+ by the October date.

i just hope to get 30+ and ill be satisfied. it is what it is.
What do y’all have so far? I have a decent 28.

Why aren’t you people fine with scores between 24-29?

Idk what school i mean it doesnt matter i just want a high score to get bigger scholarships

I have a 29. I want a score above 24-29 because I want to be a competitive applicant and I need a lot of scholarships. The higher the better.

I am not fine with a 24-29 because those scores aren’t high enough to get good merit aid, which I need if I want to go to anywhere other than a CC. My state flagship will give me $5,000 a year ($20,000 total) for a 32, but only $1,000 a year ($4,000 total) for a 28. I have a 30 now, so studying to get those extra two points makes a hell of a big difference in scholarships. It makes a similar difference at other schools I am looking at, but don’t remember the numbers exactly.

My first ACT I received a 30 (31 E, 28 M, 32 R, 30 S).

I experienced a LOT of growth in math my junior year when I took Calculus and finally started to understand all the Algebra I never really learned (never took Algebra I, horrible teacher Algebra II), and solidified my geometry knowledge. So, my math score should go up a LOT. Expecting a 33+ for a gain of 5+.

I did good on English and Reading on my first test, but it was right after an ACT Prep unit in my APLAC class, and I don’t think I’ll do as good this time around on those two. My reading score would be near perfect if it wasn’t for the prose fiction passage! I consistently get 4-6 wrong on that passage but rarely miss any on the other three. So I’m really focusing on fiction reading at the moment. English I just need to slow down and stop making stupid mistakes. Expecting a 30-32 on English and 31-33 on Reading.

I’ve practiced science quite a bit, but hover between a 29 and 30. It’s not improving. I want to improve this to at least a 31-32 but not sure if it’ll happen. I need some new strategies I think. And I need to work on passages about biology… I seem to do horrible on those.

Any tips for the last two weeks coming up? Just keep doing practice tests?

I need help seriously. I don’t know where to start. My highest ever ACT score is a 27. My highest sitting score is E:30 M:28 R:26 S:24. I would consider math to be my strongest subject I just can’t seem to break past 28. I believe that I continue to miss most questions toward the last quarter(15) of the math section. As for Reading I have managed to increase that to a 30 but science has not moved at all. I would love some advice on this. Oh and the English score has not moved either. I think I need tips on all sections.

What should I aim for to get into Davidson early decision?
My total act is only a 29.
W:26 M:24 R:36 S:28
That was on my last practice but I usually do at least a 27 on math, I’m not really sure what happened. Haha
I’ve been studying a lot though so I’m hoping to master is but the ACT.
