To get into my preferred school I need at least 28 composite, but my GPA is a bit weak, and I have no AP courses, so I’m relying on a higher ACT to improve my chances.

Barrons “ACT 36” book helped me with English.

For Science, you need to be able to ignore the stuff that was put in there to distract you. Focus on the data, read only the important parts, ignore the distracting filler content.

For science, I recommend using the following strategy as it has raised my practice test scores by at least 3-4 points from a 29 to a 32-33 and I am not done practicing. DO THE PASSAGES OUT OF ORDER… meaning do the 3 data representation first (5 questions each) and then do the 3 research summaries (6 questions each) and save conflicting viewpoints for last (7 questions).
You guys may be hesitant to try this strategy out because you don’t want to mess up your own strategy or you don’t like the idea of going out of order, but you have to trust me. Try practicing a couple science sections with this and see if it helps; if not, then you can always revert back, but it’s worth a shot.

By the way, I currently have a 31 and I am shooting for a lot of top tier schools like MIT, Stanford, Carnegie Mellon. UC Berkeley, etc… So I need to maximize my chances with a higher score even though I still have a smaller, but decent, chance with this score and my other factors.

Well the ACT is like in a week!!! I need to get a 33 otherwise my parents are going to make me put an end to all my extracurriculars. I got a 27 in 8th grade and studied a lot over the summer. But the last two weeks since school started I haven’t had time with AP Bio and Calc 3. Any tips for this last week? I consistently score: 32E 34M 29-34R 27-32S. Writing is an 8. I don’t know how to raise it…

I’m going to take my last full practice test this weekend or at some point next week. Beyond that I am not going to do too much. Cramming doesn’t help - if I don’t know enough to do well on the ACT at this point, I’m not going to learn much now.

I took a practice test today and I’ll take another one tomorrow. I’m not going to take any more after tomorrow- just review simple things like formulas, grammar rules, etc. I seriously have no time this week with an AP Calc exam on Tuesday as well as an AP Govt test. I seriously wish there were more hours in a day.

I ran out of time on the science section and ended up guessing on roughly 10-15 questions. I still have no clue how to tackle the science section.

I have the same problem with the science section. I keep getting 26-30 on it while the rest of my scores are around 32-34. My problem is mainly I run out of time, so I don’t get a chance to look over the questions carefully. Does anyone have any tips for this?

I did my last red book practice test today. 35 English, 34 Math, 32 Reading, 32 Science. I feel like the 35 English is a fluke - I had 29, 30, 29, 30 on the first four tests and didn’t do a whole lot of practice since then. The Reading & Math are pretty consistent with past scores. The Science is a bit above my average but not horribly. I got a 33 composite which I really hope I can replicate next weekend! That’d improve my merit aid opportunities immensely.

The extent of my science test strategy: Hope there are a lot of Physics and Earth Science passages, and no Chemistry ones.

Did a practice test: 34 English, 36 Math, 32 Reading, 35 Science. I was surprised at my English score; hopefully this will be useful in superscoring.

I just took my last test E:31 M:33 R:34 S:30
My goal is a 32+

To Everyone taking the test:
You fought long and hard and gave The ACT your all to achieve this point. Fight if you must, but understand you know this is a battle you can win. It is time to say goodbye to the test that stressed your life… CHEERS TO US, MAY WE ALL GET GOOD SCORES!
