How exactly are the essays graded?

If you skipped B and C of one of the essays, but answered the rest, is your score fubared?

Each essay is graded out of 10 points. Depends on each question on how each part the question is worth.

Oh, okay, thanks!

MC was much easier than I expected. Essays were iffy, but overall I think I made the 60+% mark for a 5 haha.

I thought MC was easy too, but I only left like 2 blank, and I know there were a lot of iffy ones, I’m just a little worried with all the 1/4 points that could hurt me, hopefully a 80/100 raw score.

Free Response was relieving to say the least. #2 and #4 were relatively simple, but I’m still worried that I might have known a lot about the question but didn’t know that they would be looking for that.

Looks like it’ll be a harsh curve, I think I’ll get a 4 for sure but a 5 is a reality. When exactly do we get our scores?

The curve probably won’t be as harsh as you think. A lot of people from other schools didn’t know essays 2 and 4 at all. It really boils down to what your teacher spent more time on.

MC was a little hard cause I know nothing about the five kingdoms and barely studied, but FRQs were a relief… should be a 5

I thought the MC was about on par with the old exams that are floating around the internet. I didn’t answer five, and I’d think that I got about 15 wrong. Not too bad, about the same as on the old exams, maybe a little worse. As far as the short answer, I thought I got parts of each one, but all of them had rough patches. 1b, 2a (don’t know why I had a hard time remembering that one, but I did, I think because we did it so long ago), the first part of 3b, and the specifics of 4b (I put down some terms I knew were related, but I didn’t really remember what they meant) were all iffy. Unlike FR from previous years, though, I feel like I got at least 5 points on all of them, and didn’t get full points on any question, except MAYBE Q1. On all the practice FR sections I did, I always middled it out on two questions, completely bombed one, and did perfect on one.

I’m pretty confident that I got a 5, though. Every single practice test I took gave me an easy 5, and unless I’m drastically overestimating myself, I think I easily scored in the 100s-110s. I’m happy.

Were there any plant material on this AP Exam? Last year’s exam was like AP Botany lol.

So what is the exact formula to calculate score?
(RAW MC) * (.9) +
(FRQ score) * (1.5)

And it’s out of 150, and then the curve comes into play and generally above a 90 is a 5, and above a 70 is a 4? When do the scores come out then? Do they mail it, or can you check online (even though we didn’t really register online, we did it through the school) through the same account you have for SATs?

We have a 48 hour curfew on discussion right? I’ll just be careful when typing

Well there are always plant questions, but from how you describe it, I wouldn’t call 2009 the AP Botany exam.

yeah, MC was hard i thought. FR not so bad. but then again my teacher is an idiot so i basically taught myself everything.

on the last FR, part c, i drew a picture of a virus running away from a "dog"ma in great detail. and i didnt write anything. 4 or 5 i hope? haha.

For the mc i thought they weren’t too bad… i left 11 or 12 blank and guessed on 2/3. Im hoping for a high 70 on that…

As for the frqs, i had trouble on of the subpoints in one of the frqs ( i want to be more specific but… i will in 48 hrs)
So i think i got a 4 or 5 probably a 5 but we shall see…

Last free response was great for me, except I might have missed a few key terms that I know but just didn’t think they would want when grading, but seriously the last Free Response is probably where I’m getting a lot of my FRQ points froms. That and #2 were great, and I know I got a few points here and there on 1 and 3, so I think I’m set.

Maybe you’ll get a point for being artistic haha, but realize that doing that shows that you’re not serious about the exam and they might grade it harder.

multiple choice: not too hard
essays: i went blank on some parts of the questions… they seemed too open-ended, ya know? but maybe i’ll get points for the reasonable bs i made up

i’d say i’m 99.999% sure i got 3+, 85% sure 4+, and there’s a 40ish% chance i got a 5
although, of course, estimating such things is ridiculous – if i could accurately gauge my performance, i’d have the resources to get a sure 5

what do you need on the free response to get a five if you got at least 90/100 on multiple choice

ha i guess god answered my prayers as well. i answered all the MC questions and was pretty confident with them. they were easy as hell compared to the ones in some of my practice tests (i probably missed 5 at most) but as usual i BSed my way through the free response and probably got 15-20 total out 40 points. i hope that gives me a five

I answered all of the questions and guessed on about 70 of them. My teacher taught us only three units in the ap bio book.

if you get a 90/100 then you can reasonably BS through the essay and with 3-4 points per essay, still get a 5.

Sorry, but I must inform you that you can “NEVER discuss the MC section” according to collegeboard

As for the grading scale, I thought that it was out of 100, with a 61 (approximately, just depends on the scale) being the minimum score needed to get a five.
