*** Official AP Biology Thread 2012-2013 ***

Guys, unless you’re my class, you cannot honestly say you’re behind. We’ve covered 3-24, 51, and 53. We’re so screwed for the AP Exam.

FINALLY CLIFFNOTE AP BIOLOGY 4TH EDITION HAS BEEN SHIPPED!
Oh and I really suggest everyone to stop studying from textbooks…
There’s not much time left. Review books have all the necessary info.
Just my 2 cents. No hate please.

Yeah cliffsnotes

Thank god 4th edition Cliffnotes arrived today.

It’s better than Barron’s 4th edition (more up-to-date curriculum and info) but still lots of redundant things leftover from the old curriculum.

Do you guys think the new Princeton Review book is worth a go?

^^ Yes, I’m noticing some definite similarities between the 3rd and 4th editions. Tomorrow I officially start my review for AP Bio, I have the Cliffs, Campbell, and the 160 page course syllabus from the college board. I’m hoping this will be sufficient for that 5.

Hey Nate. Fellow Bio student here! I was wondering if you have any advice for studying. I just got Cliff’s yesterday I believe. It looks nice and feasible, but should I take notes on it? I have class notes/outlines I can add info to as well. Thanks in advance!

Honestly, if you’ve been doing halfway decent (B or higher) in the class throughout the year, you should be fine. I’ve been averaging high B’s on a majority of the Campbell tests, and when I started reading Barrons, I found that I really didn’t need to take notes. As long as you read and understand the concepts, I think you’ll be fine.

The best thing you can do, honestly, is practice with essays and multiple choice questions. I don’t know about this year, but I know someone who skipped an essay question, drew a raincloud on another because they didn’t know an answer, and they still got a 5. You’ll be fine. I promise.

@honeybear: In my opinion, taking notes would not be necessary. If you have taken sufficient notes throughout the course, pull those and study them, complementing your own notes or a textbook is key with the Cliffs.

I am dedicating approximately one hour per night until the AP exam for review. This will include tedious review of the course syllabus and about 20 pages of the Cliffs. Weekends will be crucial to my review as well. I will allot 4-5 hours of studying on Saturday and Sunday combined. When I have went through all topics in the cliffs and the course syllabus, I will take one of the practice exams provided in the Cliffs, score it and take note of all the questions missed (hoping to take this test on the weekend of May 4th). Finally, having noted all questions missed, review their respective topics and take the final practice test.

@akacesfan Thanks for bestilling confidence in me. Yeah, I’ve been maintaining a solid A in both semesters and we will be having multiple review sessions. Yeah my teacher told me one of her students completely omitted an essay and was still able to score a 5. Definitely aiming for a 5, but a 4 will make me content. The tests we have are quite weird for my taste. It isn’t straight memorization anymore and you really have to think outside the box. I hate having to use the key Bio terms in the writing because some I just forget.

@nate 42 Thanks Nate as well! Yeah I’ll be hammering class notes. You can get through 20 pages of Cliff’s in one hour? If that’s a chapter, I’d be able to do it. Yeah thank god for practice tests provided. Will you be taking the SAT II? I was unable to do it because I found out you can’t take the SAT the same day. :frowning: I’ll be self-studying over summer and praying to God I remember some of the material.

Hmm…does anyone have a review of the Cliffsnotes book? I’m thinking about getting it. Right now I have Barrons and the Campbell textbook (which I’m definitely not going to re-read).

Ugh, I want to know where I can find more practice tests! My teacher gave us a mock exam with the collegeboard-provided test, but he won’t give it back to us to review! :P

CliffsNotes just came in the mail! I’ll look at it later and tell you guys about it

Skimmed through the new cliffsnotes. I’ll be comparing it to the 3rd edition one. Frankly, I’m disappointed. The 4th edition (new one) has the same pictures with a couple words that are rearranged, as the 3rd edition. It has practically the same amount of information about mitosis and dna replication as the 3rd ed. The updated exam won’t go in too deep about these topics! HOWEVER, I noticed that the new cliffsnotes did cut some unneeded information, such as epistasis and pleiotropy. I think I’m just disappointed because I had such high expectations.

Hey so i still have to start studying for AP bio exam, i just ordered the cliffs 2013, i dont know if i should get crash course because i heard that the stuff is mixed up in it such as the review on amazon. Any of those that have, is it good? worth getting?

Crash course is the ultimate tool the day before test to read instead of cliffs which is too wordy for last day overview.

However, if there are factual errors in crash course then it wont be worth getting?

Which books should i get for this new AP exam for bio??? HELP!

can anybody help with how to do a design a lab question , also whats the percentages of each subject on the test , i heard all of plants will be on it so if someone can find out and post a link or something that would be awesome , thank you

for snoop1 , for no just strengthen wat ure messed up on and make sure you know if your weaknesses are even on the test hope i helped

I’ve been watching the Bozeman Biology videos and they are so helpful! I didn;t take notes though and now I am realizing I might need them. I don’t want to go back and watch ALL the videos again…does anyone have a link to notes on each essential understanding?

@biovball I’m watching Bozeman Videos as well. Do you know which ones are the ones you MUST know. I’ll be taking quick notes to pay attention.

Does anyone think that someone can cram for this test in 5 days? I mean 5 solid days devoting over 12 hours a day(60+ hours).

Also I have barron’s but I don’t know If I should get cliffs too.

Any reviews yet?

@MedicalBoy probably, yes.

Is it true that pleiotropy/epistasis won’t be on the new exam? How do we know what isn’t going to be on there? I’m worried that my teacher is making us learn things in too much detail.
