Official AP Calculus AB 2011 Thread

So it’s not that easy =[?

^…that doesn’t sound like too much leeway

Oh wow, it should be easy then. I hope they don’t make the FR hard as hell like they did in Chemistry.

Isurus - I just thought that getting -4 on every FR was kind of, you know, not good. But, yea I guess it is not that bad.

How do you determine if a particle is moving away or towards the origin?

^it depends on where the particle is, and whether the acceleration is -/+ and whether the velocity is -/+. So if your particle is starting at t=3 and it’s acceleration is - and ‘v’ is -, then it is moving towards the origin. If ‘v’ and ‘a’ are positive, it’s moving away. If ‘v’ is positive, and ‘a’ is negative, the particle is slowing down, and vice versa. So basically, look at the first and second derivatives. mmm, hope that helps…and I hope that’s not wrong…if it is, someone should help us both… :D

needless to say, i’m nervous.
12 hours and i’ll be taking this exam. god help me.

You can do it, Molly! Work dat mojo :)

Do the multiple choice and free response each count as 50% of the score?

The are 45 multiple choice questions and they’re each worth 1.2 points for a total of 54 points. There are 6 FRQs, 9pts a piece, for a total of 54 points. So, yes, I believe that would be 50/50

I am feeling pretty good about it because none of the questions in the past exams are tricky. They are all straighforward and once you get the concept, you’re solid. I am just hoping that they don’t make things harder this year either.

Hey everyone, I’m a junior taking the AP Calculus exam as well and I found an amazing resource for the day-before-the exam review. Check it out!!

Also a good “cheat sheet”
There are many on google, if anyone is interested in alternatives.

Overall, I think I will do well on the exam. Definitely expecting nothing lower than a 4. A few things might get me and prevent the 5, but I think a 5 is very doable. I also bet my teacher that if I get a 5 he has to grow out his goatee. So it’s a must that I do well.

Do you guys think there will be a cross section problem? Some of those get me, since I missed that day in class and never really learned it that well.

@ JohnHoppy - I agree. The questions are actually pretty easy once you break them down properly. But if you don’t…they can be quite annoying.

I took the form B exam, I believe Multiple Choice is the same, FRQ’s are different though.

MC noncalc was a little rough according to most people at my school. It wasn’t bad, but it was certainly tougher than previous years. The Calc section was very very easy, I was able to do 15/17 with no problems, and had to guess on the two I had absolutely no idea about.

FRQ’s felt very odd this year, and they also shook it up from previous years, atleast for the form B Calc AB exam. I’ll talk more about it in 48 hours, not going to be too specific. I don’t think I did too amazing on them, and the last question was pretty rape IMO.

Good Luck to everyone else!

-Doom

The FRQs were impossible.

I was getting consistent 5s on practice exams and I agree that this test was particularly hard. Everyone in my school who took the test also thought it was hard.

FR #5 ***!!! I agree that the calculator section was much easier than the noncalc. 2008 exam was substantially easier than this year’s exam. The curve will probably be huge… since no one had any clue w t f they were doing.

SOOOO HARD ughhhhh

hoping for a 4! then I get Calc 1 credit…

To be honest, I didn’t think the majority of that test was really hard. Some of the free response involved a lot of work and thought, but they were doable. And the calculator multiple choice was a joke. Then again, my opinion will definitely not represent the majority because I consistently got high fives on practice exams.

5 was a separable differential equation problem, so you either learned it and remembered how to do it or you didn’t

The calculator section was definitely much easier. I didn’t think the non-calculator FRQ’s were that hard, just very tedious and time consuming.
