**OFFICIAL** AP Chemistry 2014 Thread

I’m taking it next year (or should I say two days) as a senior. I’m going to use my princeton review book and all of the people who have taken AP Chem at my school to understand it. Ironic, I just posted a thread about AP Chem before I saw this…

Thanks MathGuy!

I’m nervous about the class, not from personal experience, but from what past students have said about the spike in difficulty around March and the self-teaching 4 chapters… I’m afraid that every rational fiber of my being is going to unravel this year haha

Also, this might be a stupid question, but do most schools do the two-year thing with Honors and AP Chem? Or do some of them cover the Honors and AP material all in the AP year?

Our school makes us take summer school, regular, or honors chem before AP.

Yeah I’m taking it and Iim scared. I ended with an A in honors but that took a lot of work. Im horrible at sciences. :/

Anyone have crazy summer homework? I did mine with a friend, and it took ~16 hours to complete lmao

Hey guys. I’m taking AP Chem too. Science is not my forte either. But I really want a 5 on the exam and at least a 750 on SAT 2. Anyone statt studying for SAT 2 Chem yet? And my summer work wasn’t too bad. It was easy, but just took time.

Guys. So ik you guys know the test format is changing for the 2014 exam, and I think we lucked out, because according to other forums the test is being “watered down” which means that it should be easier. Anyone know what the new format will look like? I ordered a book, but its not coming for another week or so.

If its anything like what happened to bio, which I hope for your sakes its not, it will be much harder to get a 5 this year. In in most highschools in the country, AP chemistry is hands down one of the most challenging classes. Probably only AP physics beats it, but I had to study way more in AP chem.

Study hard, learn the AP exam, and you may get a 5. Don’t solely listen to the teacher.

Hey guys, new on here, taking the AP Chemistry exam in May of 2014. Excited to learn AP Chem. I studied alot of the summer expecting to be taking AP Chem in school, but due to schedule conflicts I now have to self study. I have learned alot of the material already and scored 57/75 on a diagnostic exam,

Anyone got any tips as for whether I should use Barrons or Princeton Review or any others? I currently am using Barrons AP Chem.

Do AP books really even help with AP chemistry? I feel like they work better for history classes and less for Science.

So far I don’t think that AP chem has been too challenging. Of course we have yet to begin stoic, so we’ll see. What I’m worried about is the fact that they revised the AP test but not the SAT 2. I’m gunning for a 780+ (I tend to do really well in science classes). Is anyone worried about this? What are you planning to do?

Haven’t done stoic yet??? we did that the 2nd week of school…
what the heck

I am a senior taking AP Chemistry and was wondering if some people could tell me what section/topic they are currently learning. I was curious to know if our class is on track to learn all the information

My biggest piece of advice would be to start studying early. Allocate an hour every day and just truck through a concept. It’s a really good idea to constantly be refreshing on concepts you learned in class at the end of every week.

I used Khan Academy’s Chemistry videos: [Khan Academy Chemistry](Chemistry library | Science | Khan Academy)

Also did a lot of practice questions from Barron’s and online places: [AP Chemistry Practice Questions](http://www.learnerator.com/ap-chemistry)
[College Board Exam Practice](<a href=“Get the Most Out of AP – AP Students | College Board”>AP Chemistry Exam – AP Students | College Board)

Good luck!

An important message for everyone on this thread! Collegeboard has announced that this year’s ap chem test will have a brand new guidelines covering six big ideas.

Has anyone found a prep book that seems to match the college board’s new test format and content? I am quite concerned about how to prepare, because I have yet to find a book that supposedly matches the new test. I normally use PR for APs and SATs, but that got awful reviews ([Cracking the AP Chemistry Exam, 2014 Edition (College Test Preparation): Princeton Review: 9780307946201: Amazon.com: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Cracking-Chemistry-Edition-College-Preparation/dp/0307946207)). I’ve heard Barron’s is good but often includes difficult/unnecessary material, and I don’t want to waste time studying topics not on the exam. Any ideas? I am particularly hoping to practice the newly formatted FRQ questions and get an overview of all content.

This year i’m taking bio and chem honors. I’m doing quite well in both of them. I was thinking about maybe taking AP Chemistry next next year. I heard it is really math intensive. I’m also in Algebra 2 so would that depth of math suffice for AP Chemistry. Also do you need to know physics for the AP chem? Thanks, any answers would be appreciated greatly

So the Princeton Review AP Chem 2014 book is not very good then? I was planning on getting it since it’s the only one I see that is updated for the new exam.

could you summarize how it’s being changed?

a LOT of the math has been taken out :frowning:
its really making me sad, math was among the main reasons i took ap chem
