Hello everyone,

I am self-studying this course and am using the Ethel Wood book (AP Comparitive Government and Politics: An essential coursebook and study guide, 5th edition). If anyone has taken this exam in the past or is going to take it this May, please feel free to comment here with any advice or any links that we can use. Currently, I just finished the introduction in the book and am very worried that this book will not be enough for me to get a 5 on the AP. If there are any tricks or references that will be especially helpful please share. Self-studying this exam is very frustrating because there is a lack of books that cover the course. Please help!!!!!!!

Use Wood. Last year seven freshman took the test, and the ones who used Wood were the only ones who passed with a 4 or a 5. I don’t know about the juniors and seniors in the class, but they had more experience than us and (in theory) knew what they were doing. I don’t remember the textbook that they gave us, but it was pretty bad. It had barely any of the vocabulary, and it wasn’t meant to be for AP Comparative Government, but rather for comparing twelve different governments.

There are also a lot of “cheat sheets” online for the various countries, which were really helpful. But overall, all I can say is good luck because this is a very difficult test that has very little available information. Read everything that you can, because there will definitely be information on there that you are not familiar with–usually in the form of a short response questions, unfortunately.

I don’t know though, maybe someone else had better luck with it. We rushed through the course and didn’t even get to Nigeria, so I’m probably not much help.
