***Official AP Language 2013-2014 Discussion***

Just because someone already created an APUSH thread and I wanted to be able to create an AP thread, I'm creating this, even though it's a little early. ;)

Got my summer reading assignment last week, have to read Into the Wild and write a 3-5 page paper on it. Already almost done with the book (betcha I won't start writing the essay until we have like a week left of break ).

So, discuss, discuss everything related to AP English Language!

I believe we have to read Grapes of Wrath for our summer asst.

C’mon guys, never to early to start discussing next year…

Personally, I’m ready for summer, but pumped for next year. While they say junior year is the hardest, and I believe it, I think this’ll be the best year yet due to taking all the classes I wanted and finally being a junior, not a lowly freshman or sophomore.

Our summer assignment is to read The Crucible, The Scarlet Letter, and some historical/non-fiction novel. And to be “familiar” with like 8 other books.

We had to chose between six novels, I chose Unbroken and got two other novels for my own interest (Freakonomics and Outliers)

Unbroken is a great book!

Our summer reading assignment was to write an essay analyzing a novel out of a choice of quite a few…I ended up choosing “Beyond the Beautiful Forevers”

I’m finishing AP Lang and Comp right now, and my summer assignments prior to the class were Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, and Tess of the D’urbervilles by Thomas Hardy. I would suggest reading the first two to get you into AP mode, even if they aren’t on your list.

Does anyone know if there is like a list of the most commonly tested books or do you just read random ones/notable ones and hope for the best?

My summer assignment is to read The Great Gatsby and write a one page journal for every chapter (10 chapters).
I am thankful that I don’t have to write an essay, although this seems to be more work, but hopefully less critical thinking xD

Nonetheless, I am very pumped up for this class. My school’s teacher is known to be one of the best teachers ever… however, he doesn’t believe in A’s :’(

This thread was born prematurely.

Ugh, you guys are so lucky. I have to read The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, write a 2000 word paper comparing objectiveism to another philosophy, write dialogic notes for the paper, and it is suggested that we write dialogic notes for the book as well.

I’m taking AP Lang. Anyone know how hard the actual exam is? I really hopes this class helps with my SAT Critical Reading because I need that to go up! And yeah for summer I had to write essays every week or so plus read another 700 page book.

our summer assignment was to read a nonfiction book from a given list of about 6 choices. we were to divide the book into four sections, write at least 5 quote-summaries per section, and a 300-500 word summary for each section. pretty simple!

My friend and I used this to study for AP European History last year and they have an AP Lang subject up now. It was pretty helpful and they have a bunch of questions up. Figured I would share this with everyone:
[AP English Language - Subject Guide](http://www.learnerator.com/ap-english-language/subject-guide)

Gonna bump this thread.
So basically I’m screwed for this test (and for the future of my stagnant writing career) because our teacher doesn’t teach ****. She doesn’t tell us anything we don’t already know and doesn’t help to improve my writing much at all… I had a such great English teacher last year, and she’s just not living up to his legacy, I guess.

Is it too late to self study for AP english language or literature exam?

Nope, it’s English. Not as bad as you think.

Hey Guys! I got the Princeton Review for English Language and I got Cliffnotes because a teacher had a copy lying around. It might be outdated. I have the budget for one more AP Prep Book. What do you guys think I should get?

Where can we get more MC practice? Can we just study from the SAT Blue Book?
