official AP Physics B 2011-2012 thread!

@jspeed12
oh wow man, that sounds like my chem class last year. i did get a 5 on chem but that’s cause i self studied the entire year. try your best…good luck

U spent 87 on ap? I paid 25 in our school ;)

My exams are free lol.

The test is coming up this Monday D:

Is there anything that I should especially focus on? I’m doing well in my AP class, but it’s my teacher’s first year of teaching AP and I’m afraid that he might have prepared us well enough. I’m going through FRQs right now and going through some review sheets that were given to me.

btw, is it normal for an AP Physics class to have large curves (there are quite a few people with over 100% in the class).

@500005
reviewing the FRQs will help you but make sure u do some practice multiple choice also. that’s what brings my score down. i can usually get about 70% of the FR but only like 50% of the MC(puts me on the border between 4 and 5). idk about the curve though. my class does not have any curve, what you get is what you get

btw is anyone else also taking the bio test on monday

Thanks for the quick reply. Have you noticed a certain type of problem that they like to do on the test (like there is always an area and solid of revolution problem on the calculus test). We’re not graded on sig figs, are we?

I’m not taking bio, but good luck on taking two in one day.

My class doesn’t curve at all unless a test is particularly hard (which only happened once, and even then, we only got 5 points). Like I’m one of the higher grades I know and I’m averaging about a 95%.

@500005
no, sig figs (as far as i can tell) only matter on the chem test but i still use them on physics out of habit(i took chem last year). for stereotypes on the physics test there always seems to be a problem on newton mechanics, lab related, electricity combined with magnetism and circular motion [qvB = (mv^2)/r] , and most likely optics. if there are seven instead of six questions the last one is always nuclear and modern physics

I’m afraid that there might be significant grade inflation in my class. I ended last semester with over 100% and and I have over 100% right now. There are at least five people with over 100 D:

Oh well, I should study instead of worrying.

haha
good luck on your test though

i know its kinda late, but should i even bother doing fluid mechanics. I self studied just about everything else (except some nuclear stuff), but i know only really basic fluids.

@saif235
yes you probably should look at fluids especially the equation of continuity (A1v1 = A2v2), bernoulli’s principle and the different types of pressure. there is a pretty good chance of a free response on that and most likely a few multiple choice. if you are using a review book there should be a summary on it (easier than trying to read a textbook)

How do you guys reccommend studying for lab FRQs? I’m self studying this course, and I’ve been having a hard time doing any type of lab-related question.

It is interesting that you mention the labs. I have taken the class and have done extremely well, but even I find those questions to be difficult. What I recomend to do, is go over past free response lab questions and at least learn those. Also, it helps you to understand what they award points for. Hope this helps.

If you took a class for this, the best preparation is to simply look over the equation sheet and memorize any that you forget. There are also more that you have to remember than what’s written down there. Otherwise, it is a very easy test.

Does anyone have any good resources to study from online?

^also interested.

anyone have released exams too? 2004 or 2009?

i could also use some released exams and other materials.

btw does anyone know how kaplan, mcgraw hill, and princeton review practice exams are compared to the actual AP test. my scores are different depending on which book i’m using, so i’d like to figure our which one is the most accurate.

2004 MC:

2004 MC Answers:

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE POST THE 2009 EXAM. PLEASE. IT’S GREAT PRACTICE.

Is it ok to leave answers in 3 decimal places? All answers seem to round off a lot on frq rubrics. I’m so used to leaving 3 decimal places.
