so i just wanted to see what everyone included in their essays. include if you were confident/eh/o.O on the essays. =D

dbq - ehh not so much. used all of the documents, then i realized that i didn’t use too many specifics and realized that this dbq is different from euro. eh. still managed to include north and south overview, cotton, differences, etc. incorporated nat turner’s rebellion too, which i don’t think it really counts oopsie.

frq #2. everyone did this - i just bsed with everything i knew, managed to remember EVERYTHING from amsco, every date and some even with months and days lololol anyway, i explained their significances, divided them up based on economic limits the crown imposed and the challenged they posed to the republic. not 100% sure how i broke it down, but it worked well and answered the question i think.

5: japanese and mexican immigrants. internment camps, executive order 9066, korematsu v. u.s., reagan compensation (which probably doesn’t count), mexicans’ bracero and zoot suits, young mexicans’ revolutions and street fighting, both of the immigrants’ racial discriminations, etc.

in general, it went pretty well - i had more info that i retained just until a few days ago probably forgot some other minor details.

Yeah, that’s ironically in 1831 =P

These are solid FRQ’s sir!

dbq- missouri compromise of 1820, expansion of slavery below the 36 30 line on the map, compromise of 1787 prohibiting slavery in NW territories, second great awakening, slaves fighting in the revolution to gain rights, market revolution caused expansion of slavery, cotton reaper or w/e it was, slaves economically profitable, slave rebellions scared whites which led to more black oppression, indentured servants were too dangerous to force under labor, triangular trade-slaves from west africa, even africa profitted economically from the slaves, black codes, even slaves escaping north still faced hardships (boston document), racism, depiction of slaves racially inferior, although the slave trade was ended in 1808, slavery still persisted

frq #2
uhhh timeline was french and indian war to signing of declaration of independence, french republican ideals from the french revolution, citizen genet, mercantilism, taxes, tea tax, navigation acts etc, suspension of mass. legislature, boston massacre, habeaus corpus, boston tea party, salutary neglect, violations against colonists, quartering…all that good stuff

frq#5 japanese and african americans
african americans fought for their civil rights, took part in war production effort and in the actual fighting, eventually led to civil rights era of 1960s,
japanese korematsu case, internment, scapegoating, racism, pearl harbor, fear of spies, racism, oppression, linked it to schenck v us where civil liberties were suspended in cases of “clear and evident danger”
linked these to later affirmative action programs to redress for these wrongs
nationalism brought the blacks in with the whites to ward off a common enemy, the japanese

DBQ: I liked it, I think. I said that despite some who were freed, the overwhelming trend was toward furthering slavery and mostly talked about economics and how slavery created a specialized economy which made the whole country more dependent on slavery so it was harder to get rid of. I don’t really remember what I wrote all that well.

FRQ 2: I talked about how British policy impacted government, economy and colonial unity and how the colonists’ response to the policies illustrated their sense of exceptionalism and entitlement. Boring, but I think it was decently written.

FRQ 5: I said the treatment of Japanese-Americans and African Americans showed both America’s underlying racism and its potential to change into a more democratic and tolerant country. Okay thesis, but I think my writing sort of disintegrated by the end. For Japanese I talked about internment and Korematsu and whatnot and how it showed racism because Germans and Italians weren’t interned. For African Americans I talked about how moving around for wartime jobs brought racial issues to the foreground and laid the basis for the civil rights movement. I don’t even know if that’s true at all, but it’s what I wrote.

Hey guys well this is what I included for each essay.

DBQ- was a little unexpected and caught me off guard… I included Middle Passage, Slave Trade ending in 1808, indentured servants, africans obtaining freedom fighting in Revolution, African culture (strong Christian religion, strong family/kinship ties, religious revivals to maintain optimistic attitudes) and I think Stono Rebellion (although that was way off…)

FRQ 2-Yes, we all picked that one. i really liked the question. I included all the basics; stamp act, tea act, declaratory act, quartering act, boston massacre, boston tea party etc. Not too bad

FRQ 5- I chose Japanese and Africans. For africans i basically wrote about their yearning for civil rights already and their growing significance. (such as blacks fighting in war) I included WEB Du Bois and his fight for equality since they “equally fight in war” A little weak i know.

Japanese Americans- i used internment camps, Pearl Harbor, Nisei (although i think i used it wrong…at least it was mentioned) korematsu v. U.S. poor living conditions (for most camps) and growing fear of Communism that would lead to Cold War.

I am praying for a 4 on the exam but the DBQ might have messed me up. Any guesses on what I would get with details i used for the DBQ? A 6 perhaps?

Any chance of me getting an overall of 4 on the exam?

Thanks everyone and I hope you all did well!

DBQ: Everything people said before but I included that the Constitution ended the legality of slave trade by 1808 and also talked about increased industrialization after the War of 1812 and how blacks migrated north.

I also accidentally mentioned Llyod Garrison and Frederick Douglass … which came slightly after. How detrimental will that be >_>

Frq#2 : Pure pie. Proc. 1763, Tea act monopoly, Intolerable acts, olive branch petition, circular letter, french indian war etc.

Frq#4 : Knights of Labor against discrimination in the work force and child labor… demise at the Haymarket riot

AFL nativist labor union with their Chinese exclusion act etc.

1, 2, 5

straightforward arguments for each, nothing too special but each was solid.

expecting a 5, although a 4 would be great. anything lower would be disappointing to my personal standards.

CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP. i just realized that i wrote down compromise of 1820 for the question but never actually included it in my essay. nor did i ever finish my dbq essay!!! CRAP!!!
