Official AP US History Thread 2012

The cutoff for the 2006 exam for a 5 was a 111/180. I doubt it will be too far off that, probably a bit higher. I’d guess 114-116/180, but nobody will know for sure.

I think the cutoff will be a little higher than it was back in 2006ish as the guessing penalty had been eliminated in 2011.

Hey guys! So so so glad it’s over. Here’s my input:

-Thesis statement: My teacher told me that a good thesis automatically gets you a 4/9. On the other hand, with an underdeveloped thesis, you will not get more than a 5/9.
-Compare/contrast: I had this problem too! I only had about 3 sentences comparing and 2 huge paragraphs contrasting lol (Eisenhower v Nixon). As long as you addressed some similarities, I don’t think they’ll penalize you. However if you did Truman v Eisenhower, you should have done some comparing.
-Curve, IMO, is going to be at least a bit harsher, considering there is no penalty for wrong answers AND the dbq was on a topic most people were comfortable with.
-HOLY i was like, THANK THE LORD when I saw the dbq topic:) honestly, we got so lucky guys:) imagine having something like puritans! (2 years ago) also did my research paper on the EXACT same topic so really happy:)

Ahhhhh I thought this test went extremely well!!! So so so relieved. Didn’t think the multiple choice was that bad, though I was also surprised that there was hardly any reconstruction, fdr, 20s…,weird. So much early and late history! But I think its because the dbq was right in the middle.

I did FRQ 3 & 5, really satisfied with both.

:D
Cheers guys, we did it.

I think the curve will remain the same or maybe go up a few points. While many of us thought the test was easy, I know people who thought the whole test was hard. I’m also going off the assuption that the majority of CC-ers put plently of time outside of class to study for the exam, and I don’t think the majority of people saying it was easy this year was any different from years prior.

@rusty

I kinda felt the same way. It wasn’t until I was verifying answers with my friends when I actually found out that the ones that I was confident in turned out to be wrong. That’s the worst feeling, honestly.

what did you write for essay #4 on the 20’s

Rusty 84: I finished with about that much time left too. I was surprised at many of my friends saying it was hard, I was like, o.O…

Mysticalkites: There will always be many who think the test is hard because APUSH is a hard test. Undoubtedly. But considering last year about 1/2 the test takers were stumped when they saw nixon, and some classrooms didn’t even get to him…Gilded Age was definitely an easier topic overall. So I think the the curve has a good chance of becoming harsher at least just a little bit. Plus, I didn’t really study that much, just paid attention in class  but i love history so…

So I never really understood how to write a US DBQ (took AP World last year and was trained really good on those DBQs); How much outside info was I supposed to bring? I used all the documents and had about 50/50 of document/outside info.

what did people write for the forth essay? like about immigration and prohibition…

So i read a couple sample essays last night and some people didn’t cite the documents and for some reason i decided no to. i included information from the documents but i didn’t put (doc A) or according to blahblahblah. will this affect my score in anyway?!

you are ****ed

Depends on how strongly you implied the document :P

I’m feeling amazing about this test. My teacher prepared us ridiculously well, and I know that it’s not just my personal bias, hehe. I’m pretty confident about a five, but definitely at least a 4. I’m thinking I missed 7 MC, 12 at the most. The DBQ was amazing, I had already written a couple on the topic and had actually studied it extensively for the last week. Feelin’ an 8. First FRQ (topic 3) was grand, my heart says 8 but my brain says 7. :stuck_out_tongue: Second FRQ was alriiiight (topic 4). I’m feeling more like a 6 on this one. Overall, I felt like this was easier than the ~four (I think) full-length practice exams that we did in class.

Anyone down to discuss some MC?
Did anyone almost put down muckraker for Ida Wells haha? I had to change my answer in the last 5 minutes because I realized I had the wrong Ida lol.

Anyways, let’s talk some MC.

i will talk MC, but first what did you write for Essay #4???

@set
I talked about Prohibition and Immigration. Talked about how prohibition was largely ineffective save for the first two years of its enforcement, led to the rise in organized crime, etc. Immigration, mainly talked about anti-foreign sentiment following WWI and the First Red Scare and how it peaked with the Emergency Quota Act of 1924.

Throw in some more details, and that was essay.

NOW, what did you say for the Reagan Doctrine? It was that he was going to stop Communism and aide Anti-communist revolutions or something along those lines. (Choice B i’m pretty sure)

I thought the test was pretty easy, and I only know I’ve missed 2 or 3 so far. The DBQ was a godsend. For #3, I just had so many things to talk about that I don’t think I adequately “analyzed” and tied them together, but hopefully the depth of my explanations can get me a 6 or 7.

set1012 - I wrote about immigration and Prohibtion for #4. Sacco-Vanzetti Trial, National Origins Act, sterilization law were my hard facts for immigration. I couldn’t really come up with much for Prohibition since it was well, just Prohibition! I talked about the rise of crime, such as Franklin County, VA’s fame for moonshine runners, despite the belief that less drinking = less crime.
I really didn’t have enough facts for Prohibtion, so I think I got a 5 or 6 on #4.

@benfster what if i like restated what was said in the document or like i took a quote for one of them but i didn’t cite it. or did i just completely fail??

NotElitist -
I got that question wrong, but B seems right.
What did you get for the one about what Teddy Roosevelt did to help African Americans? I don’t remember reading about that at all, and I don’t have my lovely Enduring Vision with me anymore.
Also, the political cartoon with the pillars about the Constitution was really strange. I said it was encouraging the other states to ratify it because I remember RI was the last state to do so.

Let’s do some multiple choice!
Ones I got right:
Ida B Wells
Levittown
Jane Addams
Shays Rebellion
Truman desegregated
McCarthyism-Army
Low point of FDR: Supreme Court justices
Miranda v. Arizona
Early 1900s= South Pacific
Carter= Latin America
Fourteenth Amendment
Helen Hunt Jackson
Horace Mann
Tecumseh/Japanese named guy in War of 1812
Scopes trial
“Spider in Hell” from Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God by Jonathan Edwards=Great Awakening

Ones I missed:
Zoot Suit
Goldwater states rightsers
GI Bill wasn’t automobile
Crittenden Compromise
Social Gospel for poor
VV
Tax-supported schools was Puritans
Teddy Roosevelt=NAACP

Who else remembers?

The carter question was latin america? Really? Wasnt it mid east. SOFSDJF
I missed puritans
Teddu Roosevelt=NAACP
