***OFFICIAL AP US History Thread 2013-2014***

I took APUSH and the recipe to success (providing you have the class, and a crappy teacher like I did) is simple. Don’t sweat it at all. Rather, watch some history channel every now and then, and learn how to write a good essay. My teacher was truly horrible, but I prepared for the exam by doing the following:

First:
Go through each chapter of the APUSH book and make a little diagram of the important facts. Do this for each chapter. You only need visual diagram for each one, such as the civil war had the American flag ripping in half with the important victories of the North one half and the South on the other along with the Generals. (I believe the Chapter has the important info in bullet format at the end of the chapter but I don’t remember)

Second: look through the chapters you’ve gotten through each quarter at the end of the quarter.

Third: Chill and don’t bother studying a whole lot. Do a few practice problems if your teacher doesn’t give you any, just so you know the format. Otherwise it’s pretty easy.

Fourth: Learn how to write a good essay, I already took APWH so I knew how, but if you don’t know then learn, NOW! (and NO, it is NOT like writing an English essay history essays have different expectations/format)

Fifth, I’m stealing this form my APWH teacher, every day wake up and tell yourself you WILL get a 5 on the exam. I mean it. It helps. A lot.

Source:
I got a 5 on the exam, and I did the above. My friends who studied the normal way, i.e read every prep book, do 1 Million practice problems etc. did proportionally well to how much they studied. My friends who followed my method ALL got a 4 or 5 (depending on writing skills)

Finally i found the amsco pdf my life is complete

Dedalussayshi guide is complete, but it’s too much work. I got a 5 just by doing practice multiple choice section and read Kaplan’s and REA crash course book, which I found online.

@TrElite, It is actualy pretty easy. After you read a chapter it only takes 5-10 minutes to make a diagram. Going over it once a quarter took me 5 then 10 then 15 then 20 minutes total. So it isn’t that much work. 3 and 4 aren’t required for most people who have done an AP before. 5 possibly requires the most effort on there.

my guide to passing apush taking it this year:
nothing.

worked for euro :D

There used to be a free iphone/ipod app with flashcards that I found more helpful than any prep book.

Also, the night before/week before the test, don’t read the test book, just watch John Green’s Crash Course videos on YouTube. They’re condensed, yet they provide all the essential facts and more. Plus, they’re really entertaining. I think that’s what helped me the most on the exam, honestly.

Changed my mind and decided to take APUSH. I now have only 11 days to complete a lengthy assignment. God help me.

Started school yesterday, APUSH looks like it’s going to be a good class and the teacher’s great. Hopefully I’ll get a 5 on the exam. A lot of work though!

Basically my APUSH teacher said all the things that would scare everyone on the first day. “Prepare not to have a life, read to death, blah blah blah.” I’m getting worried but a lot of people from this forum managed more. Cross my fingers man.

Yeah, he said most people fail the exam and only 4 people at our school got a 5 last year. He also mentioned that he thought it was the hardest AP and he wonders why only sophomores take it.

The multiple choice was definitely difficult and some of the questions were so exorbitantly obscure. But it wasn’t the hardest AP that I’ve ever taken - honestly I think that World was harder, and my APUS teacher said that Bio is the most difficult. I took APUS as a junior just this year.

Concluded my teacher is useless so just going to read the American Pageant in/out of class.
or should i just read AMSCO , assuming the teacher tests on Pageant would there be any blaring differences in content knowledge or are they interchangeable?

So I just started APUSH, I did my summer assignment but I guess I didn’t do the notes the way my teacher wanted. Most of the class didn’t- so I don’t really know what to expect. Looking for some extra help…

To anyone that would like it I have a comprehensive study guide for APUSH, as well as for AP Bio and some for AP Psych as well. Just email me…priyasorab@**********…if you would like one but also include the email address of your teacher. Some are okay, and some aren’t okay, with me sending them out, so I’ll just ask them for permission:)

Hey Guys! I think I have something that will help you all pass the AP Test with ease as well as guide you throughout your class. I am a Senior in high school, and I took AP US History last year. To study for the AP test I handmade over 1,000 flashcards that are divided into 13 units of study. From studying with these cards, I earned a 5 on the AP exam and an 800 on the SAT II. So, from my results you can tell these cards are legit!

Instead of just throwing them away, I am selling the cards on craigslist, and hopefully one of you will be able to benefit from my work.

Here’s the link: [AP US History / SAT II Flashcards - Over 1,000 Handmade Flashcards](http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/bks/4027500635.html)

One more thing similar products by textbook manufacturers and education resource publishers will not have the same amount of information as these cards. In fact, the information will be quite lacking in details that are crucial to earning that ever so elusive 5 or 800 score.

Anyone else spending labor day weekend doing summer assignment? Anyone trying the book Dominate AP US History- it is only on ipad. It has videos, wondering if that will save me reading time.

It is still the same test for 2014, it changes in 2015

Periwinkle- get the Dominate book. i used his videos last year and they are golden. 4 on the test and it was the only review i used. helped for almost all my tests in class.

Does Barrons work? For someone who has never taken history and has no clue and is taking AP…(?)

^ I hear Barrons is crap – way more info than needed, occasionally wrong answers to questions. I’ve bought a Barrons book for a different AP & the SATs, and it wasn’t very good with either, if that helps.

I second Crash Course on youtube, but I wouldn’t use it solely. Maybe as a supplement to a quick cramming session.
