what were your guys' theses on the dbq and FRQs? the questions didn't really lend themselves to good theses, so mine were pretty poor. and did u guys acknowledge the counterarguments in any of the essays? how much do the graders care about a strong thesis?

I think I did ok on the DBQ but based on some of the posted outlines of people's FRQ's, I'm beginning to think my FRQ were not nearly long enough, or specific enough :(

Oh dear God...I hope I answered the DBQ appropriately....what, exactly, was the question? "In what ways" or "to what extent"

I basically talked about the ways in which the Vietnam war caused tension...not to what extent it caused it.

^same thing.

You're sure? It's the same thing? I talked about how the war caused tensions, not the extent of the tensions.

on AP central the exam has already been posted so if you are curious you can check it out.

Oh God, I really screwed up on the DBQ (Vietnam War was the only thing I didn't review, dang it!!). I must have gotten a 1 or 2. Seriously.

I mentioned how China became communist and the U.S. didn't want any more countries falling to communism (Cold War tensions) in my intro (which took me forever to write). Is that...correct? Or did I just remember it wrong or something? It looks like the curve won't be generous since everyone seems to have done well on it.

For #3, I mentioned stuff like the Compromise of 1850 (how the South needed more land to expand agriculture), land from Mexican War, Fugitive Slave Law, Impending Crisis of the South, South's argument that slaves were treated better (like family, perhaps?) compared to northern workers, competition from immigrants (?), more slums in cities (?), child labour issues (?), cotton gin, Clay's American System (I mixed it up with the Lowell system...SHOOT!), and bad factory conditions in north. I ended with how it contributed to tensions between North and South (Civil War eventually). Anyone else do that?

4 was pure BS. :P Intro was only one sentence (thesis was too simplistic). I mentioned KKK, Jim Crow Laws...not much else.

I did okay on the DBQ. I mentioned draft riots (didnt mention specifc riots though), the "new left", and growing opposition of the war. I alsomentioned the Tonkin Resolution and how it was the turning point into getting US more involved, the Tet Offensive, and how by the end of the 1960's, it was clear America wasn't going to be successful in the war. Then finally I mentioned a little bit of Nixon and his "Vietnamization" of the war, and then a little of the economic problems caused from Johnson spending too much money on the war. I incorporated some of the docs, about 5-6, but could have made them a larger part of my essay.

Assuming I missed around 20 on the MC, and did okay on the FRQ's, do you think I can get a 4?
