***Official APUSH discussion thread for 2009***

I just got Barrons flashcards and am about 100 cards in (there are 500). I also did PR and I have been going through the Crash Course. Does anyone have any other recommendations on how to study? Should I be doing some practice FRQs as well?
ALSO for the FRQs–do we need to be able to name all of the terms or can we get points if we describe events and concepts?

I found this score predictor: [AP US History Review Pack Score Predictor & Generator](http://www.4dog.netfirms.com/score.htm)
seems pretty accurate

[The Presidents](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdUUywIsIGI), by Jonathan Coulton

Repeating the song over and over = best method to memorize the order and highlights of US Presidents.

Song is gold. Lol

Okay, I’ve been in a regular US class this whole year but have been self-studying for the exam. I just got a 97% on the last mult choice from the new deal up through Carter, but have never written a DBQ. I’ve had basic FRQs on my regular tests so I feel pretty prepped for those, but at this point should I maybe rely on beginners luck so far as the DBQ is concerned? I’ve also “self-studied” for the English Lit test on thursday, in that I haven’t studied at all, but… I’m generally pretty good at BS-ing essays. But anyway, are there any good DBQ strategies? I’ve heard outside info + using as many documents as possible is key, but what about writing style? Are they looking for a better written, more interesting essay, or a perhaps simpler one that’s packed with information?

Was my teacher correct in saying that you have to answer at least 60 questions on the MC portion for it to be graded?

Yup I’m reading giant AHAP and I’m up to progressivism, 16 more pages to go. Generally it’s good but it only has reviews up to Vietnam.

im just screwed. period. and my teacher is making us write a whole bunch of research papers to help us review. NOT HELPING, wasting time.

so just out of curiosity, how hard is it to get a 5/9 or 6/9 on frqs and dbqs? like, i’m not aiming high or anything, i just want a 5, and judging by how many mc i’ve been getting right, that’s the only safe route i have towards getting what i want.

‘‘like, i’m not aiming high or anything, i just want a 5’’

What’s higher than a 5? :P

I did a personal outline of AMSCO that took like a bajillion hours xP

It’s 1/3 of the length of the book. Lol

^^CharlesV

well, yeah, you’re right, a 5 is the limit…supposedly. but it’s only like a 64%.

i know one of my friends took the test last year and said that he missed 2 mc at most, and i’m over here missing 20ish. so i’m not ‘aiming high’ in the sense that i’m not aiming for a perfect-- just going for base-line 5. :P

Wait, you only need 64% for a five?!

im screwed for the essays as well.
even though I read AMSCO starting from like two weeks ago, I don’t remember what i read. guess I have a bad memory :(

I think he/she meant he/she wants a 5 for essay, because that’s precisely what I’m aiming for.

finished amsco, going over term cards

^^mango man, yeah, 115/180 points usually seals the deal for a 5.

^^skyhigh, i’m actually aiming for the 5 on the entire test. as for essays, they’re out of 9, and i just don’t know how harshly they’re going to be graded. i figured that i’m a good writer, but having never had an official person grade a free response question before, i’m just unsure about my abilities to BS them.

^^ do not in any way bs the dbq or frq. i had a AP table leader grader for one of my review sessions and he told us that you get docked down a lot if your information is outside the time period it is supposed to be in. if you want a 5-7 just keep it simple with a decent amount of outside info and analysis of the question.

ic. but how much is too much-- like, would a decade leading up and a decade afterwards be excessive?

I hope to get at least (for MC)… 60/80… with 20 wrong. 6/9 (Maybe 7) on DBQ 6/9 on both Frq’s, which gives me… 121.88/180 = 5.

Is 114 a set score for a 5? Or does that change?
