I hear they place roughly 1500 on the wait-list each year, and about 500 commit to it.
I got into University of Michigan Ann Arbor, UCLA, University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, and Boston University. I’m not sure which one I’ll pick yet

I am not from the US. So I probably didn’t apply to as many schools as you did…?
But I got into Rice. I am put onto the waiting list of almost all the other schools, UChicago, WashU, NYU, UMich. Maybe it’s because I don’t know much about the stats, but right now it is quite amusing to see all these waitlisted decisions ranging from Uchicago and Brown to NYU. I have to check the decision email from Rice every day to make sure I wasn’t imagining the acceptance. Ugh. :P</p>

I’m an international applicant as well! What major are you planning on?</p>
<p>I hope brown has a low yield this year! I’ve gotta decide between Villanova, Northeastern, and Binghamton otherwise since UMich didn’t give me any FA :(</p>
<p>I’m waitlisted as well. 
I hope they have a low yield and are in need of hardworking Asian kids (not to be racist or anything, I just know that they do look at filling racial gaps when looking into the waitlist). I’ve been accepted to College of William and Mary, so I will probably go there if I don’t get off the waitlist.</p>

Really?..probably economics and/or sociology? Im not really keen on being a music major but I really want to join the orchestra… Some colleges only allow music majors to join their best orch…right? .___.</p>

<p>Yes? Why should I care what others are doing? Also if they have a lower yield then there’s a better likelihood of the waitlist being used and therefore a better chance of getting off that waitlist</p>

<p>Seems Brown waitlisted a lot of internationals this year. Dont they waitlist anticipating the yield?</p>

<p>They do, but yield can be unpredictable, especially when each year students apply to more and more schools. At the same time, a school like Brown loses the bulk of its cross-admits to HYPSM and wins the majority of the rest. Thus, one might presume that Brown’s yield will rise as the acceptance rates at HYPSM continues to drop lower.</p>

That’s so awesome!! When I was in China two years ago, we completely skipped over Hong Kong even though it’s arguably the most free and democratic part of China!</p>

Hong Kong is really a cool place. You should come! The transportation system is awesome and needless to say the food! How about Ohio? I have utterly no idea…though I’ve been to LA, San Fran and NYC.</p>

I really want to visit!! My sister is going to China in a couple weeks, but I’m currently too poor to join her! Hahah Ohio is pretty much the most boring place ever, especially where I’m at. I’m in a tiny town, and the only fun thing we have is to go to Walmart. If you go there you literally see all of your friends.</p>
