Is your sister going to visit HK? Does she have any specific types of places she wants to go? I can shamelessly pretend to know a lot and suggest some according to her interests xp
Really? Going to Walmart? But anyway the most exciting place on earth is the internet, which everybody has access to no matter when or where, which we all spend the most of our free time on :P

I’m from the Silicon Valley! Since colleges are known to accept people from wait lists based on who’s underrepresented in the entering class, do you think Asians have a shot at being accepted off of the wait list? (since we’re an overrepresented minority) :/

@hiyawhatever
She said that it all depends on how much time she can get off work. So far, she’s going to Shanghai and then to visit our home village. She loves to eat food, so if there are any great food places she must check out, please do tell! Although with the recent news of a new bird flu, she’s thinking about going vegetarian while in China. Hahhah
A lot of people around here don’t realize the capabilities of the internet! I’m addicted to reddit, and none of my friends know what it is. Most of them just complain about how borig our town is, which I agree, but it could be worse.

@Nutelleria
I am so jealous of you right now. I want to work in the Silicon Valley in the future, but I got rejected by my schools in CA. It’s my dream to get a job over there. That’s why I’m staying on the waitlist in hopes that Brown’s awesome CS program will accept me :(. I seriously hope that a bunch of Asians decide to go elsewhere because I could definitely use an acceptance.

@mchen013
There’s a chain store called Tam Chai Yunnan Noodles which has awesome vermicelli in soup. It’s all over Hong Kong! For pasta and pizza she should really try Fat Angelo’s in East Tsim Sha Tsui! I admit I have no idea about reddit. I just looked it up on google and am trying to understand Maybe you could elaborate a bit on how cool it is?
Plus. I second you on being jealous of @Nutelleria!

@hiyawhatever
I’ll let her know! Hahah have you guys had to avoid certain foods because of those bird flu cases? And, I only use reddit to click on those blue links which usually just lead to pictures or gifs which are really funny! Others are like news links to information that is interesting or controversial.

@mchen013
Actually, no. We rely on the government greatly for these kind of warnings. They have been extremely careful since the SARS outbreak back in 2003. I guess since the government hasn’t made any official statements about avoiding foods, we shan’t be too worried… We have a lot tighter regulations on food safety when compared to mainland China.

@hiyawhatever
Yeah if I were to live in china I would definitely choose to live in Hong Kong. Mainland china is so corrupt!!

Accepted my place on waitlist. I am an international student. Does anyone have an idea when do the first round of calls start and how do they contact international students if they’re admitted from waitlist?

Should be mid-May, though I know someone in the past year who was accepted in April. Guess it depends on how soon they get responses and how badly they want you. where are from Gunner94

Will they be using the waitlist this year?

According to the official website, brown admitted 2,649 students.

They admitted 2,692 students for the class of 2015 and they used the waitlist

Would it be safe to say that the waitlist will be used?

<a href=“Office of Institutional Research | Brown University”>Office of Institutional Research | Brown University;

If the yield rate is 56% this year, 1,483 applicant will be admitted, leaving around 30 spots.
I really hope the yield rate is low.

Thanks BrownFann. I am from Pakistan, where you from?

Hi all - is there anyone else here who applied to PLME? I’m assuming those decisions have been made, and on the off chance that I do get off the waitlist, PLME won’t be included, correct?

I honestly wish I hadn’t applied in the first place - I had no chance of getting into the program, and it probably made me look like another pre-professional kid. but whatever. what’s done is done…

@stupiddorkyidiot
Hey! I applied to PLME as well. Unfortunately, you’re right. It said so in the decision letter as well, that we can’t be considered for PLME or any other combined program anymore, since those spots have already been filled. They are only offering spots for the undergraduate program now.

Ah, thank you. I didn’t really bother to read the letter before I clicked commit to waiting list ^_^

Actually - on that note - can anyone here who can still access the letter paste it in here? I want to get a chance to read it, haha.

@Posterguy

Do Brown admit 1513 freshman this year?
Did you see that number anywhere?

Historically, the yield is 51.8% to 59.2%.
There is no connection between acceptance rate and yield.
Do you think the yield goes up or down?

According to Brown
“Brown anticipates an incoming class of 1,515 next fall.”

This is what they say every year, so I’m assuming that they aim for 1515 every year.

I think (hope) the yield will go down, seniors apply to more and more colleges every year so hopefully it will.

@Posterguy

I also think (hope) so and agree around 30 spots will become available for us.

I guess Brown waitlisted 1500 or so and around 500 remain on the list.
Do you think this number 500 seems correct?

Yes it’s usually around 500.

le sigh

So, let’s chat to relieve the tension.

Where is everyone else enrolling, if Brown doesn’t work out? Who here is on other waitlists? (I got WLed at seven schools - will probably stay on the lists at 3 or 4.)

Brown is a need blind for Americans, but it it not for internationals, right? Are those international waitlisted students asking for financial aid? What are your views on the connection between internationals getting off the list and international asking for aid?
Since so many internationals are here this year, I am wondering. After May, do they still have sufficient fund available for aids?
