Official BU Class of 2018 Regular Decision Thread

Potentially only 48 hours until we find out!! Maybe less! I’m getting all sorts of nervous excited!

got rejected from villanova tonight, do you guys think BU is harder to get into than villanova or the other way around?

@rtv2014

if you look at rankings, BU’s the hardest but i’m not sure because they should be holistic. anyway 2 more days!

:( so scared

Wait…I got waitlisted from northeastern and isn’t northeastern easier to get into than BU?..am I doomed?..to be fair it was from northeastern professional studies (they messed up my application) but even so…

@mwahahahanna
Not necessarily, you never know what each college is looking for to represent their class

But I mean we all find out in 2 days :)

@infinitely2014

you know what? YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. THANK YOU SO MUCH
waiting is painful!!!

Northeastern is more selective than Boston University, generally speaking. However, neither are terribly holistic - Northeastern especially; it’s basically SAT+GPA and that’s it - I have friends who were in 10+ clubs, held multiple leadership positions, internships, NHS, etc - but they had ~1800 SAT and ended up rejected or wait listed. I don’t know if the same trend will happen with BU but that’s what I’m anticipating.

…it’s all about moving up in those rankings.

@mwahahahanna
best of luck to both you and me and everyone here!! :)

@preamble1776: Holistic means that they look at the entire application. Having amazing EC’s will not make up for an 1800 SAT at Northeastern. Their average is 2075/2400.

Is there any indication based on past year’s threads, that BU will release early, perhaps tomorrow evening?

Think it will be Saturday

@TomSrOfBoston - I interpreted holistic to mean that weak parts of an application in isolation can be overlooked by the strength of the application as a whole. The 40 or so kids that were rejected from Northeastern from my school were all excellent students, top 3% rank, three season athletes, community service, multiple APs, and so on and so forth - their Achilles heel was the SAT where they scored in the 1700-1900 range. I managed to get accepted with pitiful extracurriculars, minimal course rigor in natural sciences, and a smattering of B’s and a C on my transcript - but my SAT was the only thing that I had over them and apparently that was enough for Northeastern. I was trying to suggest that BU and NU admissions are largely number games and not much can save you if your SAT is lacking.

@infinitely2014
Thank you very much! You too!!!~~ ^-^

I had an SAT score of 2180 :frowning:
Not great, I know, but I thought that would’ve still been okay…

@mwahahahanna haha thank you! i think you should be fine, i know of people with much lower SAT that have gotten in. and to be honest, i think your SAT is pretty solid.

@infinitely2014

Do you really think so?? :’)) thank you!!!
But I’m even more worried about my GPA. I don’t know how but both weighted and unweighted it’s 3.85. I really wish I could know why Northeastern rejected me so I could have a better idea of where I stand with BU!

@mwahahahanna - A 2180 with a 3.85 should’ve warranted an acceptance along with merit aid at Northeastern. Was there something glaringly wrong with your application? My friend got in with a 2150 and a 3.8 along with a 15k scholarship – if this was just a fluke, I’d say you have a solid shot at BU.

@mwahahahanna well you have better grades than me LOL so yeah don’t stress too much! do something fun and get your mind off of BU until 1.5 days later haha

i agree with @preamble1776
you have decent statistics, but then again NU was pretty selective this year.
this makes me worried as to what BU is looking for.
