Official Cal Poly Class of 2015 Decisions Thread

My only feeling to why really well qualified applicants are being rejected is that Cal Poly is still a CSU, meaning it’s meant for normal high school students. If they start accepting the high stats kids, they’ll no longer be there for the normal kids wanting to go to college.
3.55 gpa
32 ACT (2160 SAT) and was rejected

^what major?

Status “You have not been selected for admission to Cal Poly.”

Mech Eng
Weighted GPA 4.16
Unweighted 3.97

Does make you wonder what the difference is when you see others post that they were accepted with lesser GPA’s. Oh well, it’s not like my son doesn’t have a choice.

So far, he has been admitted for Mechanical Engineering to:

Cal Poly Pomona,
UC Davis,
San Jose State University,
CSU Chico.

Still waiting on UC Berkeley status.

Rejected - Environmental Engineering

SAT: 2210
SATII: Math II : 790; US History: 770
Weighted GPA: 4.03
Unweighted GPA: 3.33

11 AP’s (AP Scholar with Honor); Band Section Leader, Some poor junior year grades (a couple C’s)

@lordo and ventureman: wow, that is ridiculous.

Good luck with UC/other schools decisions to all who were rejected and congrats to all those who have been accepted

There is also the possibility that they accepted people early on who have already decided to go to Cal Poly and now they just dont have space. They try to predict how many people will accept and maybe this year they miscalculated. With the economy being so bad, budget problems in california, and UCs going up I think more people applied and accepted to Cal Poly than in the past. I am one of them

considering nothing has been changed to Governor Brown’s 2011 budget, $1 billion dollars will be cut from funding for UC/CSU/CC. This in return will have colleges cutting back and accepting less in state and more out of state students.

Average gpa is something like 3.87 but act is only 26

Remember that Cal Poly SLO is still a CSU and geography DOES come into play. That said, I got rejected too. I live in San Diego.

@VentureMan
how has your son already heard from UC Davis? just wondering? did he have ELC?

I heard UC Davis sent out decisions in January or February for those eligible for their Honors program.

I just found out i was denied today.

4.12 UC gpa
31 ACT
200+ community service hours

I have no clue why because I have better stats than people that got in but whatever happens happens i guess.

@juicycutie,

Yes, he was accpted to the major of his choice through ELC. He’s ranked 6th in his class. He was accepted to CSU, Chico’s mechatronics Engineering program back in December, SJSU Mech Engineering beginning of Jan, and Pomona this week… all top notch mechanical engineering schools. He has always been holding out for UC Berkeley… rated #3 in the nation for mechanical engineering… so we’ll see if he gets accepted there.

I think the big Engineering firms prefer UC’s… but Cal Poly and Pomona are highly respected State Universities. With Cal Poly falling out… and Pomona over 6 hours away (and really more of a commuter campus)… it will probably be UC Davis (an hour away) or UC Berkeley (30 minutes away).

We applied to a few colleges so as to not have all eggs in one basket.

Rejected for business admin.
act 28
uw gpa 3.72
w gpa 3.97
in state
so heated right now

yea well Davis and Berkeley are very good choices! best of luck!

I was just rejected. This is depressing. SLO was my number one choice.

so…an ELC student got rejected?

cal poly admissions are whack

the bad news arrived for me too. i don’t even have passion to go to school anywhere else. wow this sucks.

Man that sucks for all of you that got rejected, i got in with a 3.55 UW.
Edit:Engineering too
