Hey guys I applied early decision for Business Admin.

GPA: 4.08
ACT: 25
SAT:1180

What are my chances??

@calpolyslodream I think you have an excellent chance of getting in…honestly I’d be shocked if you didn’t.

@Linmcphil You have an amazing gpa! However your tests scores are a little low. I don’t know if they’re still offering the SAT/ACT, otherwise I’d suggest you retake one or the other just to make yourself more competitive. If your high school courses are/were rigorous then you also have an edge! I’d say you have about a 70/30 chance, but I only say that because of your test scores. Good luck (:

Do I have any chance with early decision?
Mechanical engineering
-3.77 gpa, 4.04 weighted
-SAT: 1300
-Pretty decent extracurriculars
-5 ap classes senior year
-currently in calc BC

As far as I know, the only EC you should be mentioning to evaluate your chances is if you had a job that you can list on the application; Cal Poly does not care or ask about your EC’s (unfortunately).

Doesn’t it ask for straight hours per week

Computer Science. (Not sure if I’ll apply)
4.35 GPA
2110 sat

Chance?

The problem with asking for chances regarding SLO is that there is such a huge gap between applicants accepted to the school. And I’m talking about applicants in the same major. I’ve read multiple threads, and I’m just speaking from observation, but it seems to me that the convention of people with higher stats being guaranteed admission to highly-ranked universities doesn’t apply to Cal Poly. My friend applied to the CSUs and got rejected from every one of them. Not because she’s stupid, but because some colleges see high stats, assume the applicant won’t accept the offer of admission, and they choose to accept someone with lower stats who, in their eyes, is benefitting more. My friend is a special case since she’s currently at Harvard, but some schools have that mentality. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, but I’m just speaking from my limited observations and opinions.

AtypicalAsian it wouldn’t hurt to apply, give it a shot (: Your stats are quite impressive.

Yes mouserat, they asked how many hours per week on average we spent in extracurriculars in the past 12 months or something similar.

I realized my last post is a little vague because I forgot to elaborate on what I was talking about. The stats of applicants accepted to slo were fairly diverse. Haha my mistake.

Also mouserat, I think you have a fairly good chance! Again, I’m not too sure of it myself, but my personal opinion is that you seem to have a good chance at getting accepted.

AtypicalAsian: This thread is for Early Decision, so if you are not 100% sure that Cal Poly SLO is your top choice, you should not apply. Early Decision is binding… You can always apply to Regular Decision since your Stats are impressive and you have a good chance.

Gumbymom, if early decision is binding then why are accepted students given an “accept/decline” option? I’m asking out of genuine curiosity.

This is from the Cal Poly Website:

Early Decision is for those applicants for whom Cal Poly is
a clear first choice. Applicants should have established
strong and consistent academic records throughout
secondary school and should have completed all the
required standardized testing by October of their senior
year. About 10% of our new freshmen students will be
selected under our Early Decision plan.
Candidates are reviewed on their program of study in
secondary school, academic performance in classes,
standardized test scores, extra-curricular activities, and/or
work experience.
Early Decision candidates must be committed to attend Cal
Poly. Students admitted under this plan may be released
only for compelling medical or financial reasons. Students
who apply for Early Decision and are not selected will be
automatically reviewed under the Regular Decision Plan.

You can decline the Early Decision as stated but you are not reviewed for Regular Decision.
Decline and it is the end of the line for Cal Poly SLO. I believe you could reapply as a transfer in two years??? This is why you need to be sure of your choice. My son has applied ED but only after touring the campus and making sure this was his top choice.
Major: Computer Science
UC GPA: 3.73
ACT: 31
After senior year: 10 AP Classes, 2 Honors 150+extraciricular
He is hoping he has a chance since his GPA is on the low side.
He is applying to several more CSU’s and and a few UC’s just in case…

Thank you for clarifying (:

I believe your son is a prime candidate for slo. One of my friends got in during Fall 2013 with a 3.3 gpa, 29 ACT, and high-1800s SAT score for software engineering. Software engineering and computer science are fairly similar, but I don’t think many people apply for SE when compared to CSC. Perhaps looking at that option may help? However your son seems to have all the stats for a strong slo student! I don’t know if my opinion holds merit, but that’s my input.

Just applied ED for Civil Engineering

CSU GPA: 4.22
ACT: 30 (31 E, 34 M, 29 R, 27 S)
Senior course load: AP Calc AB, AP Stats, AP Eng. Lit, and AP Bio

Also does anyone know when we’re suppose to send our transcripts and test scores? I don’t remember the application saying anything about them.

Applied yesterday for Microbiology Major!
Weighted GPA: 3.95
Unweighted: 3.64
Act Composite: 30 (Reading 34, Writing 32, Math 32, Science 28)

I have 5 years of science credits and I also held an internship position related to my major, so hopefully that counts for something.

I really hope I get in! CalPoly is my first choice for college!

Chance me?

Nice stats TylerJH! You’re a strong candidate.

Send in your ACT/SAT test scores as soon as possible, but don’t send in your transcript or AP scores yet. They only ask for an official copy of your transcript and your AP scores if you are admitted. Good luck (:

Hey guys!
I’m applying for ED
I have a 3.82 weighted
25 act but Im taking it one more time the first time I was really sick the day of
And I have about 13 hours of work a week and about 4 ap courses and 2 honors
Oh and for software engineering!

And to add about 10 hours of ec a week, and my ap classes have been
Ap French
Ap physics
Ap calc
Ap stats
Honors chem
Honors physics

One last thing!
I havent sent my app in for ED, I’m still trying to choose between computer science and software engineering… Do I have a chance in either?
Thanks

Hi guys!
I am a current Cal Poly Freshman and I always read college confidential last year so I thought I would help you out.

I applied Early Decision last year and my major is Biological Sciences
I had a 3.85 unweighted GPA with many advanced placement classes and a SAT score of 1230 (CR + M).
I currently live in the residence halls and absolutely love it here, you all are making the right choice!
Talking with many other Cal Poly freshmen about their high school GPA and every person I have talked to has had a GPA of around 3.80-4.0 and above.
