I applied biz admin - Finance management. 4.0 gpa, but only 2 A’s on record. 5 classes for fall 2014, got all A’s but those don’t matter. I took 7 AP exams, so half of my IGETC is done through AP… Still no determination made on my app. I think I’m screwed
Hey OP, you are Biz admin and seem knowledgeable on this process… So if two people have already posted acceptances are we rejected for Biz Admin? @joogman23
@sustenance what did you have in progress for Fall '14 and what do you have in progress for Spring '15?
To answer your question, it doesn’t mean anything. Decisions do not get posted til next week, keep a look out starting Wednesday. My aunt Donna Amos just retired from the Admissions department at Cal Poly and she said they usually put applications through the Compuer program after the holiday passes. Hope this helps
In progress fall I had: Financial Accounting, English 1A, Speech 1, Business Law, and Astronomy. A’s in all.
Summer of 2014 I took American Gov’t and Microeconomics. A’s in both. ( only 2 grades I could report)
In progress Spring I have Calculus 2, Managerial Accounting, English 1B, and American Cinema (for last humanity)
I am 18 years old. Everything accounted for, I will have everything fulfilled by end of spring. I don’t think 1 year transfer to SLO is even possible because of how they judge their applicants.
- 7 AP exams all of which are verified by counselor etc etc.
@joogman23
@joogman23 that’s interesting because two biz admin majors already posted, 1 saying that several of his friends got in. I know I’m screwed though because all my in progress were core classes or igetc completion.
@sustenance yeah I highly doubt that people are getting in right now. And I don’t think you’ll have an opportunity to get in but you might get waitlisted. The thing is to have everything done before submitting your application, that is what SLO gives priority on.
@joogman23 @sustenance I called yesterday to ask about psych majors since people here were saying they had already gotten in and the guy who I spoke to said they have not made any decisions yet and they haven’t posted anyones acceptance sooooo I’m not sure the guys who “got in” are telling the truth.
@sb1993 Never know with those government workers though.
@sb1993 @sustenance yeah not til next week. Don’t believe everything you read, this is the internet.
Will it hurt your chances if a lot of your required courses were taken in fall '14 and spring '15?
I won’t even have all the required course classes done. Hope I get in. Already got rejected by one school
I dont think it will have a big influence as long as you get them done by spring 2015. From what ive been told by counselors if youre a second year student applying and you have all your ge and prereqs done then youre considered the same amount.
Ok cool. Sorry if i sound stupid but whats the difference between required courses and prereqs?
You dont sound stupid at all! Pre reqs are classes for your major and i think by required you mean the general ed courses for igetc requirement
Huh??? Im confused because I used the transfer criteria page on cal poly’s website and it lists the required/desired courses for your major there. I’ve only been in cc for 2 years so theres no way I could’ve finished all those classes before submitting the app.
@isaiahahhhchuu the “required / desired” courses make you look more competitive than others along with everything else they require to be completed. I know this because I called admissions before applications started because I was not going to be able to take one of the courses they had as required.
so from what I assume based on the admission peoples words to me was that the people who complete all the required and desired courses have more “points” or whatever they do as far as scoring our applications.
hope that helps.
@businesslady001 oh alrighty makes sense. what are the “prereqs” that everybody is talking about tho?
@isaiahahhhchuu I’m not sure what specifically others are talking about (yes im too lazy to scroll through all the comments) lol. But I personally go based off of the admissions selection criteria on the cal poly website based on your major.
I know all majors they want your csu general education completed by the end of this semester. Then GPA. Extra curricular activity and work. Number of units completed. Your intended major. And then of course the required/desired courses. All of those factor your admission.
hope that helps.
@businesslady001 The thing about Cal Poly is that it’s been rumored that, it is critical to not just have everything at least in progress, but COMPLETED at time of applying, so basically a year of no classes or irrelevant classes before transferring… I hope not but whatever.
It is completely essential to have as many classes as possible completed before applying. Slo indicates that on their website. You will be competitive this way and given priority. Think about it… I know it’s dumb, and I hate the process that they use but to be honest slo is a bunch of lazy people that aren’t even looking at your application. It runs through a program that selects the competitive applicant. There are many factors to being competitive as well.
