@ReminiscingDad I only applied for Biological Sciences at the Mellon College of Science, and both letters explicitly state contradicting admission statuses in regards to the Mellon College of Science.
@MOMANDBOYSTWO I believe the priority waitlist is not binding…? I don’t remember whether it was a thread or CMU QnA but I remember people saying it is not binding. Students who got off the waitlist do not have an obligation to drop other school and go to CMU. I think what CMU is saying is that they are going to give 48 hours to students who got accepted off the priority waiting list to pay the enrollment deposit. But it is not something like early decision. not enforced…
I was waitlisted but still haven’t received a FAT package
Posted this in the RD Decisions thread but just in case anyone admitted doesn’t look at that thread:
You can view (Accepted Student Days) here:
http://admission.enrollment.cmu.edu/pages/ntia-admitted-student-visits
You can also click on each date to view the entire itinerary for that specific date.
Looks like each day is going to be packed to the brim with stuff to do!
Got accepted into the College of Engineering! 2300 SAT + A Levels + Solid Essays & Recommendation Letters + International Student from China (Canadian nationality).
@ReminiscingDad FA info will be mailed and be viewable online shortly(few more days), according to CMU’s undergrad Financial Aid FAQ. Hold tight
@etsy98 Same here
Thanks, YellowDune. Conflicting opinions about the Priority Wait List on this forum. I think you are likely correct. I am going to call Admissions next week to clarify.
@MandomeLife thank you!!! Fingers crossed :)>-
Accepted school of art, waitlisted at dietrich. really excited!
so there’s been talk about how enforced priority waitlist is (sorry if this has been asked already):
Is priority waitlist as binding and as serious as ED? Let’s be real, I will be depositing money for one of my back up schools regardless if I choose CMU’s priority or regular waitlist…however I do want to increase my odds at CMU admission. Should I finalize with myself if CMU is my top choice before choosing priority waitlist? Or should I still put down priority waitlist even though there may be a chance I choose not to go to CMU?
Btw: indian female from NY- RD to Tepper and obviously waitlisted (didn’t get anything in the mail)
^^This is to add to my comment above, I read through this thread and correct me if I am wrong, priority waitlist is not binding however you do need to pay the deposit within that short time frame regardless if you choose to go to CMU or not…?
If someone contacts admissions about this please do pass on the information here! Thanks
No, you only pay the deposit if you accept the position off of the priority wait list.
Please do understand that CMU is definitely my top school however the conditions of it being binding or not (which seems like it is not binding) is very serious. If this is the case that it is non binding then is it my best bet to do priority? (what are my odds at this point)
I think you have to pay either way
@ALeynng You absolutely do not owe CMU money for being told you are being accepted off of the priority waiting list. The letter is worded in a confusing way - CMU wants you to truly want to go there if you want to remain on the priority waiting list. But you ONLY pay the money if you decide to attend.
The thing about the priority is that you will mostly likely know the results before other waitlist schools (if you have any) and you are giving a 72 hour time frame to act upon it. It is not binding but it kind of forces you to make a decision even though you may also be waiting for other schools. You could always reject the offer but you cannot wait for all ur other waitlist results to come out.
Does anyone even get rejected? Are the two decisions only accepted or waitlisted?
"The Priority Waiting List is for students who now consider Carnegie Mellon to be their first choice college and will enroll if admitted from the Waiting List. ".
E@NICE8x Yes, that statement describes who Carnegie Mellon would like to stay on their priority waiting list. But nothing is binding.
