Official Carnegie Mellon Class of 2020 Applicants Discussion Thread

@Rahulbarcafan Yes. Many were rejected. I was rejected from my third choice school, CIT, for engineering.

Does anyone know whether college board’s net price calculator for Carnegie is at least sort of accurate? I feel like I’m more nervous for the financial aid award than the actual admissions decision.

@Calciferous Same. If they can’t at least match umich’s price (umich’s price for OOS) I won’t be able to go.

@NICE8x @Calciferous Also in the same boat. Michigan met my full need, and I hope CMU can do the same. Hope…

I don’t know about you, @desie1 , but my word is my bond. I don’t say I’m going to do something, knowing that I won’t. For me, this is a matter of character. You may be happy signing your name promising to enroll if offered, knowing that you would feel free to disregard that promise if you felt like it. Others would be uncomfortable offering empty promises.

@aleynng Oh boy… I am not a student, I’m a mom and my kids are not applying to CMU. I’m just telling you that they want people on the priority waiting list to be serious about CMU. But you have the option to change your mind - by the time you hear you may be more excited about the school you paid your deposit at. They understand that this happens - they are just trying to make sure people on the priority wait list are truly interested and would consider CMU. That they aren’t just trying to rack up acceptance trophies. But if you choose not to stay on the priority wait list, that’s fine. Do whatever makes you comfortable with- I just don’t usually see CMU go to the regular waiting list, so if you want to have a better chance AND you are interested in CMU, it would be helpful to stay on the priority waiting list. Good luck to you!

@aleynng - How can you call it an issue of keeping your word when CMU is specifically asking you to commit to another school and promise to break your word to that school to attend CMU if they ask? How is it high character to break a promise on May 6th to a school one committed to on May 1st?

I am not questioning anyone’s character, just pointing out anyone who goes on the Priority Waitlist is agreeing to break a promise to some school if the time comes.

Has anyone not received notification of acceptance/ rejection yet?

did anyyone who was waitlisted not get offered the priority waitlist?

CARNEGIE MELLON FINANCIAL AID INFO HAS BEEN POSTED!

So happy; they actually gave better aid than umich. Now I have to pick which school…

CMU says they haven’t received some of my documents yet. >.< I know that there’s a long processing time, but it’s been about two weeks. Worried for the state of my financial aid :frowning:

This school is amazing. I got almost 50% of COA in grants. Lower-ranked schools barely gave me a $5000 loan. :slight_smile:

I got so much money wow… this is actually unreal

That is a great news. we are also waiting for FA info.
@Riviera2016, what is your EFC?

I GOT A PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP!!!

Huge amount of aid. Like @NICE8x they gave me a package a lot higher than Michigan. 97% COA paid for <3 so happy

@azoldtech My EFC was 28,000

@azoldtech Sorry, I meant $38,000

Mine is same. hope they will do the same for us :slight_smile:

what is the total COA this time?

@azoldtech The letter says that it is estimated to be $68,050.
