No aid from CMU, and it’s more expensive than Berkeley or UVa so I won’t be going here unfortunately.
@emilyskates, what is your EFC? you may have high EFC.
I haven’t seen my aid yet, whenever I log in it says error getting data-- is anyone else getting this?
My financial aid letter was updated today and I did not get any $$. Does CMU match from other institutions that are not peer institutions? I don’t understand how they come up with this math but $68K is way high for me… When you guys got your FA letter did that include EFC etc. Mine was just a plain letter that my parents could afford it.
Yes, @KnightElf my letter listed my EFC. The aid they gave me was the exact amount of money left over after my EFC was applied. But I have no idea how schools calculate their aid since another school only gave me $5000 in loans and there is no way my parents and I could pay the rest of that COA out of pocket.
@KnightElf My letter outlined my entire financial aid summary, from the factors that go into my COA to my gift aid to loans and work/study. My letter did tell me my EFC and my exact financial need amount.
@azoldtech About 62K. I actually didn’t know how expensive CMU was until now. I can afford the 68K but I can’t justify it when I have some more affordable options.
@thereal6god @abcdefghifjk What happeneded with your waitlists/acceptances? Did you guys call yet?
@emilyskates where did they tell you your efc? I didn’t get any aid either and my letter didn’t show any numbers
i finally got my account to work (had been messing up the number) and honestly the financial aid they gave me is incredible. definitely the frontrunner at this point.
@asdfg246, what is your EFC?
@MandomeLife and @Riviera2016 Thank you and so if the financial aid has no mention of EFC then my fmly is to foot $68k/year.
@azoldtech i believe it’s $12,680, which is really awesome. none of my other schools have had efcs as low. we’re pretty middle class, for the record; 6 person family and our income is a little under $100k
asdfg246, that is great!!
Does anybody know if there are “waves” for financial aid awards (for the people who did not receive theirs today?)
@Riviera2016, did you get all grants? no loan?
@bestone1999 All grants except for $2000.
I have question about financial aid. I didn’t bother applying for it because I knew that with my family’s income I would realistically not been given much financial help. However when I did the waitlist reply form it said on their site:
“Applying for financial aid will have no effect on your chances for admission. It may have an effect, however, on which students we’re able to admit from the waiting list.”
How is this so? Financial aid deadlines have been long passed…if they I should still do it then should I? My parents’ income is above 250k a year
Did anyone use the online financial aid net price calculator? Was it accurate at all?
@terr24lr they mentioned that when they try to see who to take off the waitlist, their decisions may not be need blind, so my interpretation is that if you need more aid you may have a smaller chance of getting off the waitlist. I think you’re fine in that respect
