Thanks for everyone’s posts!
My D is sending her deposit on Monday. Clark was most generous with her and met most of her needs. We visited Clark and five other New England schools in the Fall. So she showed demonstrated interest.
Her current weighted average is a 4.25. As with many top colleges, Clark is test optional. She chose that route.
She was accepted EA in December.
Other college acceptances include College of Wooster, Earlham, Hiram and Eckerd. She wanted a small LAC environment. She really wanted New England. We are originally from NY and she has many school and camp friends who are attending colleges in Eastern Upstate NY and New England.
Hooks? She will be a graduate of a Midwestern HS and many Clark applicants are from the North East. My wife is a graduate - not sure how much that helped, but they asked.
She was wait listed at Mount Holyoke College. She was never 100% on board with the idea of a women’s college. but she liked MHC.
She loves Clark University, and we are thrilled with their generosity.
PS. She was not rejected from anywhere.
My D was accepted to Clark U, LIU Post and U of New Haven; didn’t get into Smith or Connecticut College and wait=listed for Mount Holyoke also.
She gave her SAT scores to Clark but they were not the scores you would expect from a High Honor student. She went Test-Opt with the ones who turned her down, so that says something!
Clark was generous with her, both with Merit and Need-based.
Her GPA was 3.87.
I’m liking that they will let her take private music lessons free if she does a music minor.
The rejections were hard for her, but I am secretly glad she is going to a college that is the right level for her. I don’t want her feeling anxious for 4 years!
I like the Writing Center idea – definitely encourage your kids to make use of free writing tutoring! They never get enough help in high school. I tutor and I know!
