School/Major: Viterbi CompSci
Invited to Trustee or Pres: Pres
Feeling about how interview went: I thought it went alright. They ask about what other schools you’re looking at, interests, hopes for college, questions for them, etc.

For momotoki: SAT 2310

Feeling about how interview went: My interviewers were easy to talk to, I shared some personal experiences and college aspirations, etc. The night before (and morning of), I met tons of current students who were very open and friendly–people I would want to have as my classmates. I think that enthusiasm carried into my interview :)

Scholarship Awarded: Mork Family

Comments: Over the moon right now! I’ve had my heart set on USC for a while now, and even a half-tuition scholarship would have made my day. Good luck to those still waiting to hear their results. And best of luck to future applicants as well!!

School/Major: Viterbi CompSci and Business Administration
Invited to Trustee or Pres: Pres
Feeling about how interview went: I thought it was okay, not great but not bad. It was easy going but my voice went dry in the middle and sounded a bit like I was crying, but I think that I effectively answered the questions they asked.
Scholarship Awarded: Presidential
SAT: 2190 (I know I’m on the lower side of the SAT score scale for USC scholarships, but I think that just goes to show that USC looks at the entire person not just scores.)
Comments: I’m really happy right now :)

School/Major: Dornsife
Invited to Trustee or Pres: Trustee
Feeling about how interview went: To be quite frank, I was on the verge of tears after the interview. The professor in my department nailed me over and over again with unanswerable questions – questions he said he didn’t know the answers to but still expected me to answer. He looked unimpressed. The student was nice, but didn’t really say much.
Scholarship Awarded: Trustee
Comments: Bleh. Happy that I was awarded trustees – I was pretty sure I was going to be lowered to Deans. My host was really cool though and I had an absolute blast on the first day.

@Bannedhero your story encourages me… I interviewed for Trustee as well but I was almost late to the interview (my host had a class during my interview time) bc I had gotten lost. You can imagine I was shaken to the bones. I feel like they liked me as a person but my answers felt very disoriented, and right now I feel like I could have done so much better. Almost abandoned all hope of getting that Trustee but still keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow… hopefully I will be able to log back in tomorrow with good news… I can’t afford to go anywhere really without a full scholarship (I’m int’l so finaid is hard to come by as well) so it really feels like USC is my last chance. It’s my first choice school, too! Best wishes to everyone still waiting for that fateful letter <3

School/Major: Dornsife / Poli Sci Invited to Trustee or Pres: Trustee Feeling about how interview went: I thought I might’ve talked too fast, but I definitely was true to who I was. My interviewers seemed to like me, especially the guy from admissions, but I honestly was not 100% sure how it went until I got the decision. Scholarship Awarded: Mork SAT: 2210 (660 M, 800 CR, 750 W) Comments: So incredibly excited! There’s no way I’m not going to USC now.

Comments: Can’t wait to get to USC in the fall!
ACT 31/good EC’s

did anyone NOT get their scholarship decision letter yet? I’m so worried because they told me it would be here by this Friday and I haven’t gotten mine yet… I heard people in LA got theirs monday and I feel like it should be here by now…

Olivescent, my son has not received his scholarship letter yet either. We live in Hawaii and know others from here who got their letters on Tuesday. I think my son will call USC next week if nothing arrives by Monday.

My J son just toured a couple schools and he wants to major in BME. He was impressed with USC’s Engineering facitlites and internships. He could only atttend USC if he recieved the 50% tuition award or greater, and he probably missed the OR NMSF cutoff by 1-2 questions and 3-5 points.
I read the page on the USC top awards and it says they only go to the students in the top 1% of entrance exam scores. He just took the March SAT and scored a solid 2190 (Math- 740, CR- 740, Wr- 710) and on the SAT subject tests Math Level 2: 800, Physics 730 (from 10th grade). Does he really need to try to retake the SAT’s to qualify to interview for 50% off tuition? He has a 3.8/4 unweighted GPA Honors/AP track, 2 varsity sports, NHS and an Engineering internship for the past 2 summers. He would rather focus on studying for his AP Calc, Physics and US History exams coming up, then take a testing break!
Any advice would be appreciated!

I was invited to interview for full tuition with a 2210 (800 CR, 750 W, 660 M) and 34 ACT and actually received the Mork scholarship, the largest USC offers (along with Stamps). I also had 790 on Lit Subject Test, 740 on Spanish. (Keep in mind my prospective major was poli sci so my lower math score mattered less). Maybe a score above 2200 would be nice, but honestly, I think essays and ECs are far more important.

School/Major: SCA - Critical Studies
Invited to Trustee or Pres: Trustee
Feeling about how interview went: Very well, like an intellectual conversation
Scholarship Awarded: Trustee
Comments: They just want to see that the student on the application matches up with the student they meet! Just getting invited is the hardest part. Be calm and enjoy the interview! Also, the interviews at SCA are extremely chill, and the professor I interview with laughed multiple times in enjoyment. They told us that a polo and khakis would be good enough.

MissxSilverwing: Thanks for the info and hope! I think every year gets more competitive! I think he will take a shot at the ACT and maybe try again for a higher SAT in the Fall. You would think a 2190 (96-98% in all categories) is solid enough, but possibly not…

When I was there, they said that the median SAT was a 2310 for Trustee and a median ACT of a 35 and that out of the 350 of us in the two sessions, over a 100 of us had 4.0 GPAs. If it helps, I got a 35 ACT and 2250 SAT and I had a 3.98 GPA. I also had “average” ECs.

But plenty of kids have that type of stats. Try to differentiate yourself from the crowd through your essays. Make yourself unique and interesting, but don’t come off as fake. However, it won’t hurt to have a higher SAT or GPA.
