** Official Class of 2018 University of Michigan EA Decisions Thread **

If they do come out today it will be in 4 or so hours

There’s really not much credence to that rumor at all. I just went back through the deferral thread from last year and tracked everyone I could find who posted which letter they received. Here are the results:

So-called good letter: 4 accepted, 1 waitlisted, 1 rejected, 5 non-reporting [11 total]
So-called medium letter: 1 accepted, 2 waitlisted, 1 rejected, 6 non-reporting [10 total]
So-called bad letter: 0 accepted, 1 waitlisted, 0 rejected, 2 non-reporting [3 total]
Total: 24 individuals reporting

There’s not enough CC data to draw a meaningful conclusion about whether the letters are good or bad. Those who are rejected from a school tend not to return to its forum to post, since they have other items to focus on; disappointment or a version of reporting bias also limits the data on “bad” letters to begin with. Furthermore, the majority from each category did not indicate what outcome they had in the end. We just don’t have the data to determine conclusively that one version of the letter or another presages an acceptance/waitlist/rejection.

The “good” v “bad” deferral letter thing seemed pretty subtle in terms of the difference between the letters. Hopefully UMich will send out something standard so another self-imposed mess will be avoided by it. It just results in more anxiety for applicants.

For what it is worth, my son got the “good” letter and was later accepted. Don’t think I ever posted previously what type of letter he got.

It case you can’t tell, I’m not at all impressed with the Undergraduate Admissions Office. I’m also an alum.

I know someone from westchester, ny who was just accepted

I’m from there! Did they get an email?

I’m from NYC how did that person hear?

Anyone else get their decision?? Just to confirm if it’s beginning now…

Guys look at the number of the posts of the users who claim they learnt their decision… I think they are just messing up with us

Haha look at his previous posts; he’s clearly just joking… not so sure about the westchester guy though. Maybe that’s real. Hopefully.

Fyi i just asked an admission officer on their live chat if they were releasing decisions today and her answer was “that is incorrect”

If they were they wouldn’t tell us anyway so
