I would really like to know too whether the decisions were mailed or emailed?
@mayc16 EA decisions come out after ED decisions, the hope is that they will come out on Thursday and you can check the portal.
Oh thanks! I didn’t even realize they had ED I just saw the “E”, my bad
They also weight +2 for any HL IB classes, but still just +1 for SL classes.

Since Northeastern is changing things up this year the EA decisions may come out Thursday, or they could come out Tuesday (or Wednesday?) In the past EA and RD decisions start to be released starting at 3 or 4 PM local time and take 4 or 5 hours to be completed. They are released geographically starting in Massachusetts and moving south then west. Decisions have never been released before 3 PM your local time.
You will receive a generic email that links to your decision page. If you received honors it will be stated in your decision letter. There will be separate tabs that indicate any merit and need based aid offered. If NU In is offered (and there is some uncertainty about this) it will be stated in the letter.
A 4.0 scale with the +1 extra makes it a 5 point scale total. Still, a plain A+ is 4.0, so I see that as a 4.0 scale. We are on the same page with different words I think. I also said 4.0 because a lot of people have to convert from 0-100 to 4.0 first, then add the extra bonuses for Honors/AP/etc. If you immediately scaled to 5.0, it would be very of.
@TomSrOfBoston wouldn’t admissions need at least a full week between ED and EA? How does this work? Do they review all the ED kids first, then EA?
@binky17 No, there are about 1000 ED applicants and over 20,000 EA applicants. Reviews have been under way for quite a while.
Sorry @TomSrOfBoston can you clarify for me… by “no” you mean you don’t think they would need the full week? Thanks.
@binky17 I am pretty sure that most everything is queued up in the system for release. The ED operation is very small. The timing is likely arbitrary.
Thank you @TomSrOfBoston All of this is a mystery to me (newbie parent).
@TomSrOfBoston Do you think November SATs (scores released on 11/29) will be considered as part of EA or no way? Just curious on your opinion. Thanks!
I’m guessing Tom means that with 20K EA applications, they’ve been reviewing those apps all along, since November 1st; so the time between ED and EA releases is relevant only in terms of pattern/precedent, not in terms of how much time they actually need to complete the EA process. Basically they can do whatever they want
Oh, just saw he answered already, nevermind (I can edit but not delete)
My DS applied ED and was accepted honors and got an honors merit scholarship ($16K first year, $8K/semester after that up to $64K) He’s from Nevada, which helps. ACT 33C, lowest was math 28. 3.8 UW with a 5 on AP Spanish his sophomore year of HS after taking a class online as his school didn’t offer that. He’s taking 4 AP classes now. I’m confident his essay and recommendations were outstanding. He self studied without taking a class for CS AP last year and got a 3. I wasn’t surprised at all that he got in, but I was quite pleasantly surprised with the Honors and scholarship. I wonder how many honors students they accept out of the 1000 ED applicant pool and how many honors students there will be overall in the final class? Anyone have stats on last year’s honors enrolled group? Or honors admits?
Love your username, @happyhuskymom! Congrats.
Congrats to your son @happyhuskymom! The honors program has apparently changed for this year but there hasn’t been any information at all released about it. Was there any information on it in your son’s package that you could share with the group?
Congrats @happyhuskymom ! Any info on honors you may have would be great. What major/college at NEU was your son accepted to?
He just looked on line and told me about it. I’ll have to get him to show me the portal as there are some special things I need to put on our calendar. Like the Honors students apparently go a week early to start school, and there is something in March welcoming them. They have some special classes too, and all live together in one dorm. First year that’s IV (International Village) but it changes each year. My son is THRILLED. I think it’s a good fit and I am very happy for him.
Mechanical Engineering.
@TomSrOfBoston What suggest that decisions would come out today? Have they released with such a short gap in the past?
