This link states that there were 35,000 applicants last year. I am confused, why is everyone saying there was in increase from last year in terms of applicants when it is only 24,000 applicants this year?

@RichLion no idea. I donā€™t know if they would get tracking info for all of the packages. That just seems very expensive. Iā€™m almost positive they do use priority shipping

@RichLion was the package put in on March 27th?

YESS!!

My stats arenā€™t very good though, so Iā€™m not sure if it means anything thoā€¦just a day and a half left so letā€™s just hang in there!

We have a package coming too. Does yours say it went through Pittsburgh? You never know if this is just an Amazon delivery or notā€¦

@movingaround When was your label created?

wouldnā€™t that be too early to send out the acceptances? theyā€™d arrive before saturday

Thatā€™s kind of what Iā€™m thinking. If they were mailed out, everyone would pretty much know if they were accepted on Friday which doesnā€™t seem fair, and they seem to have a lot of other things locked down so people canā€™t find out early,

@drummond4life the only thing I can think of is that 24,351 is a typo, invert 2 and 4 and you get 42,351.

35,740*1.19=42,531 and you are in the ballpark of that 19% increase they mentioned:

ā€œCarnegie Mellon University attracted a record-breaking 24,351 applicants for admission to the Class of 2022, a 19 percent increase over last yearā€™s pool. It is the largest year-to-year increase and the most applicants in the universityā€™s history.ā€

Or, they have a typo on that form because this is what the common data set says
https://www.cmu.edu/ira/CDS/pdf/cds_2017-18/c-first-time-first-year-admission.pdf
this is the 2017-2018 CDS so it has info on their admissions from last year.

And this is the part of the CDS from 2016-2017

(These are the links for the CDS about first year admissions)

Someone called and said they were mailing out packets on the 29th, they mustā€™ve needed a couple days to get them ready @emmaka @Pianomonster20

I feel like that 35000+ number represents their applicants per college, and some overlap b/c one can apply to 3 colleges? Idk. Just my guess.

According to the dataset (first link @Pianomonster20 provided) there were 20,497 applicants last year.

20,497*1.19=24,391 this year which is even closer. But the acceptance rate with those numbers jumps to 22% from the 13% on that other form, which one is it?

Honestly, who knows. maybe there are that many overlaps. Either way it seems pretty confusing and there are no solid answers. Itā€™s ok. We have a day and a half to find out.

But @RichLion I also donā€™t know if they track them. They are envelopes sent through priority mail, so Iā€™m not sure if all of them are trackable. Who knows at this point.

Just got rejected from nyu and Vanderbilt. This is my last hope before my crippling depression breaks.

@Pianomonster20 correct. And in any case 36k and 42k is most likely wrongā€¦ That would mean CMU received more applicants than Harvard and that is highly doubtful.

exactly! And they would have almost the same amount of applicants as Cornell did for regular decision. It is probably overlaps because I know Cornell, who has multiple schools, only allows you to apply to 1 at a time. So there are probably multiple people who put down to consider them for other schools which would make counting the information and creating acceptance and rejection information very difficult to create

Donā€™t mean to start rumors, but my finaid info dates also changed today on the where am I in the process? portal. Is this indicative of anything?
