General Comments: I cannot believe this actually happened. I’m sorry about how arrogant this is, but this is the biggest acheivement that Centre High School has ever had. My condolences to all those rejected; I can’t imagine how much this must suck. Well, I guess it’s time to go listen to some Radiohead and Kanye West.

congrats! i’m really happy for you 8)!!

i didn’t apply to columbia but i just found out in the past hour that four ppl from my school have already gotten in. so exciting!

Hello all,

I usually come around here once a year (I guess my old username from many years ago has now been deleted due to inactivity) on ED decision day. First off, congratulations to everyone that has been accepted.

For everyone’s information, I am a CC’09 alum and current law student in San Francisco. For those of you who are now part of the Columbia family, welcome and congratulations once again. The next four years at the University are going to be both eye opening and extremely difficult. You all were chosen for a specific reason by the admissions committee and you should be very proud of your achievements thus far. Do not rest on your laurels, however. The work that you are going to have to put in while at Columbia is going to be extensive, but in the end very worth it.

To those of you who are deferred applicants, my best wishes to you and I wish you all the best of luck. If there is a single piece of advice that I can give right now it is that you find your admissions committee member and send them both an e-mail and then a typed-and-signed copy of that e-mail to the admissions office explaining your continued desire to attend Columbia. Do not make the e-mail very long, as only a couple of paragraphs will suffice. One of my closest friends was waitlisted 6 years ago and was accepted off the waitlist and was told that his letter soon after his decision was looked at very highly. This letter should explain why you want to come to Columbia and what you can bring to the University. Simply explaining what you can take from Columbia is not what the admissions committee wants to hear. That is part of it, but more important is what you bring to the community and why your ambitions lie with those of the University and its students. The letter should be no more than a page when typed (of course, use proper letterhead and addressing). Best of luck with the rest of the admissions process.

To those applicants who were rejected, obviously the feeling is extremely tough. Having recently gone through graduate school admissions and not getting results that I believed I deserved based on my achievements and academics, I can understand how you feel. That said, where I ended up has been quite surprising and I’ve been extremely happy with what has transpired despite the feelings I had at the time of my rejections. I tell you this because your college journey is just starting and even though you may not be going to Columbia, you are going to succeed somewhere else and most likely enjoy it more than you could possibly imagine right now. I know it seems like an extremely painful day and it is, undoubtedly. That said, the best thing to do is keep your head up and persevere with the process. Although it seems difficult to comprehend, the admissions committee is actually very good at their job and they know what they are doing when it comes to selecting potential classes. The fact that you have strived for so much at this point in your life is only a sign of good things to come. I wish you all the best with your future endeavors.

To the admitted students, if you want to PM me with some brief questions about the University, please feel free to. I will try and get back to you soon. That said, please do not PM me regarding scholarships/financial aid information as I have no knowledge of that process.

Once again, congrats to all of you who have been accepted. To those deferred/rejected, best of luck with the rest of your admissions cycles.

wow… i still can’t log on to my account…

i really want to know if i’m accepted or rejected… ARGH!! this is frustrating… i just want to know and move on with my life.

@jgaugust: “I usually come around here once a year”

You sound like Santa Claus lol.

okay, it seems that I didn’t follow the rules that Columbia sent me on the e-mail on Monday… i didn’t change my password during the past three days. I changed it earlier today and after I did, I couldn’t log in to my account at all. Am I supposed to wait and get some sort of a confirmation e-mail?
