Hey everyone! I also applied for transfer admission to Columbia and I’m just patiently waiting for decisions to be released. Anyone knows when exactly decisions will be notified?
@transferind97 Yes I am!
@heyheyhey96 I expect decisions next week or max the week after that
@everyone I just talked to one of the UA advisors and he told me that they have not come out with an official date yet. However, when they do they will notify us via email. I called because I had heard that some people had already gotten accepted as transfers.
@Hungryforapples I think those who have already gotten accepted as transfers applied to GS?
Does anyone know how the schools evaluate GPAs? I have received grades for two semesters at college. I’m at a top NESCAC (14% acceptance rate) and they calculate my GPA as a 3.67 (this is a solid A- at Columbia) because at my school an A and an A+ are both equivalent to 4.00.
However, at Columbia, an A+ is 4.33. Under Columbia calculations, my GPA would be a 3.73, which is considerably different because it puts my GPA into the in between range of an A- and an A.
A little advice anyone?
I applied to transfer to columbia college, last week I received an email saying I was a better candidate for GS (I took two years off from college b/c of an illness). I tried to talk with an admission counselor before I made my decision if I should forward my application there, but there schedules were booked and I couldn’t speak to anyone before the deadline. So I forwarded my application, but today I found out there is no need-based aid. Or guaranteed housing. I wish I knew this before I decided to forward my application, and I don’t think I am a bad applicant (4.0 from both college and highschool gpa, with ~2100 SAT with leadership positions and an internship). I might want to return my application back to columbia college, but I don’t know if they will accept it or if it will reflect badly on me that I am flip-flopping on my decision.
Columbia is my dream school, I could go to GS and wait a semester and transfer into the college for the aid. But I rather not have to go through that. So if anyone has any advice for me, it would be much appreciated!
I have a friend at my community college who is 18 years-old now and transferring out already, and Columbia admissions told her to apply to GS just because she had a break in her schooling - even though she’s probably much younger than most traditional transfer candidates. I also spoke to Columbia admissions counselors: anyone applying to CC with 1+ year break from school will be told to apply to GS.
Columbia Engineering is different, however - they accept nontraditional students.
Thanks for replying @noflyzone
I was just talking with a GS counselor too, and they said I could re-submit my application to the college.
However, is it true that Columbia College doesn’t take any non-traditional students? When they initially emailed me I was told I would have a choice as to whether or not to forward my application, I assumed it was just better to send it to GS. Otherwise, I actually called the office and was told to send an email to admissions in order to resubmit my application, which I have done.
However, I’ll admit- this isn’t looking good for me, although I thought my application was relatively strong.
As far as I know, Columbia College DOES accept non-traditional students…it is just that it may be more applicable in most cases to apply/attend GS. BUT if you feel CC is a better fit for you then you can apply to the college instead and the holistic process still applies. Mainly, Columbia has a specific school for us non-traditional students but it doesn’t mean you can only apply to that one. You have to choose which one is a better fit for you…that is why they say you can only apply to one.
@noflyzone I’m also 18 years old, I just skipped my senior year of high school so I’m just a tradition applicant right?
Has anyone found the financial aid portal? Technically it says you aren’t supposed to login until they send you an email but you can access it and it should show you the financial aid you’ll get if you get in.
Yeah, but there is no information about expected financial aid, and the checklist for aid documents has also been replaced with a disclosure paragraph about receiving other forms of aid along with a list of different CS aid office contact information.
Yes, that was what I wanted to know of others. If their checklist for the documents is gone because I think it just disappeared for me today.
@Sumner I don’t know about your case; you should chek with admissions. I guess they would say you’re nontraditional.
Decisions May 4th at 5 EST!
Yep got the email. This is significantly earlier than last year
Shit, we’re getting them so soon!
Good luck everyone!
Does that mean they received lesser number of applications than last year?
@transferind97 I really hope so, though given the number of people commenting on this thread to past years I doubt it.
