No offense, but HateSMUS’s response to Illuminati2 should honestly be the last words out of your mouth when asked that question. I mean realistically Columbia’s prestige definitely contributed to me (and hopefully many others) falling in love with the school, but the main reason I want to go to Columbia is because of the people. I live about 2 hours away so I visit often and the students who go there all seem like people I would love being around and the campus is beyond gorgeous and Manhattan offers a really one-of-a-kind experience that not only cultures you but exposes you to the world. THOSE should be the reasons why everyone here applied to Columbia ED.

Sorry for the rant. I just really get upset when people say “oh because it’s an Ivy” to questions like that. Maybe this waiting thing is making me stressed out…

“PLEASE NOTE: Document tracking for both admissions documents and financial aid documents has been taken down in preparation for releasing Early Decision results on Thursday, December 8th after 5:00pm (EST). Admitted students will be able to track their financial aid documents online at https://admissions.columbia.edu again as of 6pm (EST) on December 8th. If you are missing any necessary financial aid credentials there is still sufficient time to submit them.”

Thank you for your Early Decision application to Columbia University. We are nearing the end of our application review and will soon notify Early Decision candidates of our decisions.

The Columbia community is committed to environmental responsibility; in keeping with this commitment, we will provide some admissions decisions only online, not via regular mail. You may request that a copy of your decision letter be mailed to you after you receive it online; further instructions will be available when you check your decision. We plan to post all decisions online on Thursday, December 6, 2012, after 5:00pm (Eastern Time).

everything i’ve ever heard about college confidential aside, i hope that we’ll all be there for each other on thursday night, be it for comfort or congratulations.

Thanks Sallylush, you definitely applied for the right reasons.
I on the other hand applied for the wrong ones. I live about 25 minutes from Columbia and I have 5 family members who’ve been there so I’ve been there quite a bit and I know that I would love it there, but I also admit that I could be just as happy virtually anywhere.
I question these kids who are painting their rooms blue and stalking this website 24/7 in desperation for Columbia. If you’ve only been to the place for 2 hours, how can you possibly know if it’s “a perfect fit”? And as for those who consider it a “gut feeling” - let’s just say I wouldn’t dedicate the next four years of my life based on a “gut feeling.”
I’ll be the first to admit I want to go to a school with a good name pretty much solely because I want to impress women. I don’t really care which one because I know I can be happy anywhere.
