OFFICIAL Common Application Questions Thread

I have a feeling that's what's going to happen, seeing as how I'm already loaded with supplements for colleges I do want to attend.
4 years later, come graduate school
College rep: so this student didn't even bother finishing her undergrad app to us; such insolence! -Reject-
^^;;

If a school asks for an SAT or ACT, and at least two subject tests, are they asking that you submit both, or you can submit just the ACT?

u need to send both

Also, it's fine to randomly submit test scores online as long as it's before the test date right?

Bigreddawgie-It says SAT OR ACT with writing. How do you know it's both?

I think its saying you must have two subject tests and you can choose to send either your SAT or ACT, or both.

One question... probably been answered in last 74 pages: If I want a teacher to complete the common app eval form to five colleges, do I give them five forms and five envelopes or one form(which they can photocopy) and one envelope?

You give them five envelopes and one form; they photocopy it after they do one.

How does that work, though, if you're making alternate versions of the commonapp...each "version" has a different ID number, hence, if the admin officer for the college of one of your versions, say, yale, gets a photocopied version of dartmouth's rec form, they'll have the wrong ID matchup

Where it says academic honors do u include the years u got each award?

aloso back to another question I had :the school I'm applying ED to has 2 rounds of early decision and I'm applying for ED 2, but on common app, it says the deadline for ED 1....will it let me send for ED 2 considering it shows the deadline for ED1 which has passed already?

I emailed the school but the email they sent back didn't answer my question! I don't want to be accidentally put into the wrong early decision or something!

Supplemental Recs!

Please help!

@PhysicsGirlNY: I found these in the Help Desk box on the Commonapp website

"Q:How do I submit my application when the deadline has already passed?
A:If you can select the school and add it to your My Colleges list then you are still able to submit an application. If you are unable to select the school then you will have to contact the admissions office to see how and if you can still apply."

"Q:I am applying for the second early deadline for a particular school but I'm being told the deadline has already passed.
A:You should apply RD on the Common App and select the appropriate school-specific decision round on the supplement."

I think those should answer your question. If you want to see them for yourself, just go to commonapp.org, click on Contact Us, then choose Help Desk. And if you are still in doubt, email commonapp for personal help.
Good luck on your applications! Have a great day! :)

Thank you so much js726r!!!!!!!!

What is the difference between all the school reports?
secondary school report, mid year school report, final school report etc.

secondary school report - 9th, 10th, 11th, and sometimes fall 12th grades.
mid year school report - 12th grade after 2nd semester/1st trimester
final school report - your entire high school transcript at the end of senior year.

Is it OK if the Common App Extracurricular Essay goes over by 5 or 6 words?

Yea, it's fine.

hi i am wondering wheater or not to include my SAT scores along with my ACT scores. Some of my schools require SAT IIs even if I am submitting the ACT. Should I include my SAT scores on my commonapp or will these specific schools be fine with me just sending the score report from commonapp. btw my SAT score is 1800(550,650,600). My ACT superscore is 30.

I still don't understand what the mid-year report is.

The mid year report is something your school fills out and sends to the colleges you are applying to. It is basically your grades so far in your senior year. This is to show you are not succumbing to senioritis. I think the best way to figure it out is to look at the form. It is very straight forward.

I used the common application for Early Decision, now that I am applying to other schools, is there a way I can fix that app before sending it again to other schools??
