betty.. wite something meangful. also.. be careful about your estimates because if it sounds too far off the bat then they may think you lied about it, which woudl be a shame.. I think those other teams would go in the ec box adn the summer program woudl go in the summer section

isn't the summer section only for like classes taken over the summer? the place i go to is technically a school, but during summer sessions we're not required to take classes or anything

My son and I were getting a bit frustrated by the common ap. I suppose for some people al the fields fit well, but for him, it is not, and I started reading this thread for some guidance.

Finally, we realized we were forgetting about the supliments. My son is doing ea at Caltech (and MIT, but that doesnt matter - they do not use the common ap). After he fills out the common app AND the suppliment, he will them make sure all his info is well presented, and make any necessary adjustments. If he has to apply to schools for regular action, he will fill out their suppliments and then make adjustments. The only thing you cannot change after submitting to one school is the essay (I wonder why?)

So, look at the suppliments (not all are available), and then see.

Sorry if this has already been asked (I only checked back a few pages), but if you played a JV sport (as well as club/rec league) in 9th and 10th grade and then played Varsity for 11th and 12th grade, would you list these separately (9-10 under non-Varsity, 11-12 under Varsity) or should you just list the Varsity and add in the extra info area that you also played JV and thus kept up the sport for four years?

roxxy, i would list it separately. they have the distinction between the two for cases like yours

Hey guys,

I have a couple of questions. These might have been asked before, but I didn't see them.
-The space next to the extracurricular activities page isn't large enough. Where would I put additional information about several extracurriculars? The "elaborate on your ec" box asks for me to elaborate on one, and listing off a bunch of stuff that I did doesn't sound like a well structured essay...

-Does an internship count as work experience or an EC?

-Is there a place where I can list off non-academic awards?

thanks in advance. :D

I searched the thread, and I didn't find anything that addressed this:

Under the positions held, honors won, or letters earned section can we put team accomplishments? Like if our team was in the finals of state cup or a competitive tournament?

Question concerning the "150 word" activity essay:

According to that box's character count, you can fit well over 150 words into your essay. Does anyone know if you should still keep it under 150 words? Is your essay cut off if you type more (200 or 220, for instance)?

Can I send SATs ONLY to the schools that need them and not send them to other schools? Can I only report SATs to certain schools? And how do I send additional letters of recommendation?

It costs money to send to schools that don't need them eventhough it's on your common application. I'd say skip the ones that don't require or need.

additional info section

-Does an internship count as work experience or an EC?

if paid - work, if not - EC/volunteer

-Is there a place where I can list off non-academic awards?

additional info section

comon guys some of these thigns are common sense. Usually if you don't know where to put something...it goes in the additional info section

oh.. I guess I overlooked that field. sorry for the redundant questions.

more on the internship - I get a stipend after I successfully finish it (but no hourly pay). does this apply as a job or an EC?

just count it as a job, it'll look better/more professional anyway

Several questions, sorry if any seem repetitive but I have read back and couldn't find exact answers:

If you had the same summer job for several years, how would you write that in "work experience"? Because my starting date was 06/2005, and I've done it every summer since then. Should I just leave the "to date" blank, and assume that colleges will understand that since I was working at a camp it was only in the summer?

If you have a club whose commitment varies tremendously over the course of the year, should you just estimate an average? Because I participate in an MUN club throughout the schoolyear...but from September-February it typically consumes about 10 hr/week or more (not including trips), while after that its only 1 hr/week.

^2. Yes. That's why they ask for average hrs/wk.

I have questions about SAT scores:

Should you write down EVERY test/score you took? I'm assuming yes because CB sends all your scores anyway, right?

Also, what's the difference between Math 1/2 and Math 1c/2c?

Oh, and if you go to a boarding school, where should you separate your home address from your school address, especially if you want acceptance/rejection letters to go to the school?

1c =1
2c= 2

its just ones the old name and ones the new one

omg this is been answered so many times, yes you put ALL SAT SCORES YOU'VE EVER TAKEN. ONly exception may be for SATII's if you don't have enough room and you have taken 7 or more

Question?
I just got a commonapp account. I don't want to start filling out academic/extracurrics info, until Sep but I know what schools I'm applying to. DO I submit personal info/bio to all colleges first?

They said that they like to have students in their records early...so how do I just submit the personal info/pre-application part and not the rest of the common app yet? Thks. Btw...gluck peeps.
