Official Cornell Class of 2019 Early Decision

I’m definitely not a unique geographical area, lol. Long Island, NY definetely has to have one if the highest populations of Cornell apps.

One of the teachers at my school is a CAAN interviwer, and she said she did not receive any interview emails. I had a really good personal session (~1 hour) with the admissions director at CHE, so I’m not too worried about not getting one from CAAN.

I second what @manas1997 said, if you got an interview, can you post quick stats?

Wait, if you have a parent who is an alum, does that stop you from getting an interview because they feel it defeats the purpose, or is it unrelated?

@manas1997‌ : ACT 34 GPA: 4.0, but I have friends who got an interview with high twenties ACT and lower GPA

@Autumn97 ok, so there isnt a huge discrepancy with my score and urs, I got a 33, i live in Canada, about 30-40 mins away from Toronto, so I might not get a call, but I want to travel to Toronto to have a convo with an alum.

@manas1997‌ : I see…hmmm…can you ask for a CAAN meeting?

@lisaelba‌ I’ve been inside Balch, which is the Freshman girls-only dorm.

Has ANYONE that applied to CALS gotten an interview?

@BroomOfThought‌ : Ooo and how was it?

@Autumn97‌ Well, it really depends on what room you get. I saw some rooms that were really big and spacious, but my sister (who signed up for a double) got put into a ‘forced triple’ which is basically where three students get forced into a room meant for two, and it is a pretty tight fit. I think that her case is pretty rare though. They have some nice lounge areas downstairs. The bathrooms are eh. Haha but remember that these are the freshman dorms, so I don’t think they are the best ones.

I had an interview…got a 32 on my ACT and have like a 96 average or something around there. Again, it definitely doesn’t matter what your stats are, just based on alum population around where you live. Stop worrying, jeez

Also on a side note, Balch is really good on location. Its really close to dining halls and classes, which is nice.

@BroomOfThought‌ :That must have been tough…forced triple…
And yeah, I agree about the freshmen thing…
but heck, who am I to argue? It’s Cornell. I’d be okay with a forced quadruple if need be.

@jamesjunkers‌ @manas1997‌ I think interviews have to do with the college your applying to and your location. The person who contacted me mentioned that she graduated from CHE (where I applied to) and is now living in my area.My friend who also lives near me did not get contacted by anyone, and I assume it’s because no one in the area graduated from CALS.

@BroomOfThought‌ I’m so sorry for your sister, that really sucks. Kind of annoying how you can’t choose which residence hall you want to live in

@lisaelba‌ You do get to choose your residence hall! She just got unlucky with the room WITHIN her hall :/

@Autumn97‌ Yeah…If having a dorm problem means that I actually was accepted to Cornell, I would love to have a forced triple haha

@BroomOfThought‌ oh!! thanks for the clarification. i read on a different thread that you don’t get to choose your residence hall, and that it’s a lottery. but i guess not?

@lisaelba‌ Hmm…maybe you get to choose between co-ed and women-only dorms? Balch is the only girls-only dorm, so my sister got the dorm she signed up for, but maybe people who pick co-ed get assigned to any co-ed dorm? I can ask her and get back to you on that.
