Will results be available through our applicantID or will it be mailed?

Did anyone else get a letter from undergrad admissions today

@jamesjunkers No, what did you get?

Got a letter, dated November 17. It basically thanked me for applying, and gave me I do on the class of 2018. It made vague reference to being a legacy, so maybe that’s it

@jamesjunkers What do you mean “gave me I do on the class of 2018.”?

@Radbg74, sorry, on my phone, hard to see typos. The letter had two enclosures. The first one was information on the class of 2018 (test scores, GPA, race, etc.). The second one was the contact information for all of the regional reps, and the emails for the various Cornell schools. After re-reading the letter, it appears I got it for being a legacy, so if anyone else can contribute to that, please confirm

@jamesjunkers What was the info like for the class of 2018?

So I received an e-mail asking if I wanted to schedule an CAAAN informational meeting with a Cornell alumn at a Starbucks.

What is the point of this interview? I know it’s for me to “get a better grasp of the school” and everything, but why me? There are thousands of applicants, why would they try to sell every applicant available on the school?

If I do go, would I have to dress formally?

If I don’t go, will it impair me in any way? And if I do go, will it increase my chances of being accepted in any way?

If I go, will I be evaluated and will the interviewer attempt to gauge my real interest in the school? As in, will he try to detect if I am actually really interested in Cornell and my prospective major or applying just because? Because I read that there is a file made and it is sent to the school.

I had subpar freshman year grades that brought down my overall GPA and which I didn’t mention in my application, would this be the place to bring it up?

That is all, thanks for reading/answering

@MyRealName

They say it is to give you info about the school, but apparently according to friends and people here, they ask you about your own interests as well, so I think there is a bit more to it than just info session. There are 4000 applicants( roughly) and many many alumni so I don’t think it is too hard for them to sell it to every applicant.

I don’t think you have to dress formally, maybe business casual? But dressing nice might give a good first impression.

It is said not attending will not hurt your chances, but then again just going won’t hurt either.

I do not know about this point. Again, some of my friends have been telling me its 50/50 learning about the school and then talking about interests and passions, so I am not sure if this means anything but polite talk. IF ANYONE CAN CLARIFY ON THIS POINT I’D BE GRATEFUL

Maybe casually slip it in? Like I really love this school…so worried though because I only discovered Cornell really after freshmen yr which is why my grades got so much better…having a passion really motivates a person…blah blah…

I don’t have answers to everything but …hope this helped!

@Autumn97 @MyRealName

It is actually quite difficult for them to sell it to every applicant. There may be a lot of alumni, but you have to volunteer to do it. My CAAAN “interviewer” told me there were about 9500 volunteers. And considering that these meetings are more so for RD since it is to gauge our interest (we are ED, they know we want to go to Cornell), I personally think there is a bit more that is told.

@jamesjunkers I got the same letter too! and I’m a legacy.
I found the wording a little bit concerning lol. 'We do not want to be guilty of assuming that a family connection automatically translates into perfect knowledge of Cornell"

At my interview he wrote down a few, not a lot, notes about me and he said he’s going to fill a report and send it (to the admission committee I believe). And all the reports for ed are due by dec 1st

for any hotelies, after my required interview, which i did on campus, the interviewer signed me up for the campus tour and information session. Did he or she do this for anyone else? I was asked if i had been on either and i said no so maybe that why interviewer signed me up for both, because the interviewer felt everyone needs to sign up for one. Or maybe my interviewer felt i had a good fit and chance of a and wanted me to know more about the school i might get into. otherwise, why would it matter if i signed up if all of this was after my interview and they weren’t interested in me. Either way, Im glad i did and encourage anyone who is visiting in the future to sign up for everything that’s available. Also, go to college town pizza (CTP) and get something off the menu other than pizza because they got some pretty good food!

i asked the receptionist, who added me to the sessions after being asked to by the interviewer, if it was common for the interviewer to sign an applicant up for the tour and info session after the interview and she said no. Not sure if it is uncommon because most applicants already go in the tour and info session before the interview or if it uncommon because my interviewer liked me, wrote me a good report, and thinks i have a decent shot at getting in, thus wanting me to know more about the school/program i will hopefully attend in the future…my comments mostly apply to hotel school applicants who did the required interview on campus. dont worry all other school ppl

I’m sure it was just a kind gesture. She just wanted you too see campus. I really wouldnt look too far into it.

An alumna just called me about making a meeting. We set it up for Monday and I know it’s not necessarily important to my application but I’m so nervous.
Does anyone know if your parent(s) is/are expected to come as well or is it just for you?

@cumberbatch I think it would be pretty odd if parents were apart of it, just bring yourself and some materials (ie. résumé, transcript, essays).

So yes or no on other legacies getting that letter?
