Does anyone know any instances where people with lower SAT scores have been accepted?

Yes, some people get in with 1900s. It heavily depends on what race you are (sad but true), if you are an amazing athlete, and if your ECs show a perfect fit for a school. For example, if you are applying to AAP, all of your ECs revolve around the specific major you want to enter.

How low are you talking about, student?

And vivian, they only look at two-part scores (CR+M), so the three part score really wouldn’t matter. =P

In any event, 15% of enrolling students last year had a math score below 650, and 27% had a critical reading score below 650.

I got a 1950 overall, but my writing is higher. Reading and math are all below 650. My essays are pretty strong, and my ecs are unique. I’m a minority (Bunun Tribe, east asia).

Would applying under a major that isn’t as popular increase your chances of getting in?

That’s what I’m wondering and hoping. I love food and science, so I applied as a food science major in CALS. So far, I’ve not heard of anyone that’s applying for that major…

I think I’ve heard of a couple food science majors actually. The thing is we’re dealing with like 4500 applicants and only about 100 are probably on CC. So there’s no way of telling.

from your school?

Yeah, there’s a lot more people that’s applied this year. Fingers crossed!

@student

similarly i love biometry and stats b/c tech and sci but im starting to regret it because it is a popular major that is normally a small major which would hurt my chances of getting accepted.

If i had chosen just straight up bio, there would be more seats avaiilble for ppl tho more applicants, so i dont know

Even on this forum there are 3 applicants…

im worried really bad about being rejected. That would shoot my confidence wayy down.

I just read online that it most likely doesn’t affect your chances because colleges know that students switch majors and that many try to lie about it

CALS admits by program. I had a little trouble figuring out my major, so the admissions lady sent a wonderful email telling me the credentials for CALS. She did say that each undergraduate is different.

Do you guys think it will help that I’m the only student from my school that’s applying to Cornell? No one from my high school had been accepted to Cornell since 2008 and no one who’s been accepted has enrolled there since 2005…Haha my school is not very good, save for like the top 10% of kids who actually try
But will this increase my chances of getting in, or does it not matter at all?

honestly, it doesn’t matter what school you’re from. what matters is you and your application.

I heard someone say this, but is it true that the College of Engineering looks more at grades/test scores than extracurricular activities? I’m just asking because I have 2350 on the SAT and 800s on the subject tests (math II/physics) as well as a good GPA and rank, but although I have decent ECs I haven’t had a single concrete leadership position.

I think my essays were pretty good and I know I had one great rec and one pretty decent one, but how much will CoE care about the leadership thing?

Oh, and good luck to everyone else applying ED! (I’m majorly nervous right now, trying to convince myself that there’s lots of other great schools if I don’t get in…)

Each undergraduate college at Cornell admits differently. I would suggest you call admissions at the college you applied to and ask, or usually they specify under requirements.

Has anyone gotten their PINs yet?

I think PINs will probably come out tomorrow or Tuesday

Can anyone log in to the new student site on the Cornell site?

Dude guys stop freaking out. Just wait. Nothing is certain. Go have a drink and chill

@Iditarod, I think everyone can.
