Official Cornell Early Decision Class of 2017

Is it definitely confirmed that it will be Dec 13th this year (decision notification date)? What was it last year?

Thanks

last year it was december 8th. i think this year’s is a bit delayed because of hurricane sandy.

man i am so nervous and worried about getting rejected… do you guys have any other plans in case of rejection?

Does anyone know if Cornell sends out likely letters for early decision applicants?

Well, I am officially clueless. Not only did my S receive the email and (gasp!) open it, but he replied, set up the interview, went, came home, napped, and played 2 hours of video games before telling me. And that’s only bc I mentioned keeping an eye open for an alumni email. Call me irrelevant.

In any case, he said it was very casual and low key. I hope so, since I’m not sure he shaved…

@cheese,

A giant cake and fireworks (dont know if thats illegal but oh well) if i get accepted and a giant box of tissues and friends who also got rejected over to share the giant box of tissues with if rejected :)

@ mom,

the interviews are pretty low key and no fancy or special prep should go into it. I showed up in board shorts and a hawaiian looking surf shirt and sandals.
Guy before me had spiked hair, nose and ear rings, and had a hoodie on with his hood UP the whole meeting. (We are not in NY if u cant tell by clothing lol) Not shaving is not that bad for an Imforational meeting. In fact thats prob norm across the board.
Only Requirement: Dont show too much skin (not just females) and ur good to go

Dont stress i think its pass/fail. Accept meeting or not to check commitment lvs. No biggie

@ kaitlyn What are likely letters? only heard of athletes getting them

@ sciman athletes are the only ones I’d hear of getting them too but I just got one from Purdue. I know it’s not an Ivy League but I didn’t know if they did something similar. And what if I haven’t gotten contacted for an interview??? Now I’m nervous!

interview just depends on location. Apparently my area has lots of applicants and alumni so alumni meetings are widespread. If there are little alumni in ur area, you just wont get a meeting. Wont be penalizing u. Just missing out on “this school is great” and if ur lucky “u’ll get in for sure” and “beautiful scenery”

ah just made this account so i can write in this… applied ED to Human Ecology a few weeks ago!
freaking out about hearing back though so i’ve spent my time writing my other college essays, although i don’t really like anywhere as much as i love cornell, my visit was so much fun.

did any of you visit/head to an info session? do you think this helps your cause in admissions?

Okay! Thanks! How much does an alumni letter of recommendation help? No interview just a letter.

Wait, U got a letter of rec from an alumni Way cool. Relative and /or from ur area?

Still more helpful than alumni information meeting and regular letter of rec

It’s from my friends stepmother who I’ve known for about 5 years. She lives in the area. Hopefully it helps!!!

Most definitely will help. Cornells one of the schools alumni references are HUGE help. If shes the only alumni in area, she technically cant interview/meet with “relations or know the person” so explains u not getting meeting but she wrote u a letter of rec (WAY BETTER) and u can always ask her for more info/ how beautiful scenery is at any time (which is purpose of information meeting). Im very jealous :-)

Seems like we’re taking control of this entire thread LOL

Why would you say that? Did you speak with someone on admission? No, Cornell is no different than other schools, an alumni LOR is not going to help you. Just send in LORs they ask for.

Definitely happy I got it!! So have you applied ED?

@old,

I got my observations from observations, stories, ppl who are familiar with process. Technically, they cant say it will auto get u in B/c it can’t but it helps. And when rate is 16-18percent, any help will seem Huge but i can see where u are getting at. You dont want to give ppl false hope, or just hope in general. BUT hope is very important, without hope we are nothing, just robots. No life no personality, no future

No, it won’t help. Adcoms are very busy. They do not want to read any more paperwork than necessary. If your parent is a very involved alum or have donated a lot of money to Cornell then yes, otherwise it is a waste of time to get “someone I kind of know who is an alum” to write a LOR for you.

Hey guys, for the informational meeting, you don’t need anything like a resume right? How would I prepare for the meeting? I’m a bit nervous yet excited haha

So, when will we get to know whether we are accepted or not???
December 13th, is it??
Oh, i am super - duper excited and also super confident that i will get in…i am sure Lord Jesus will answer my prayers and will send me to Cornell!!!
Yay!

lmj, just show up appropriately dressed, no resume, and breathe. It’s not formal in the slightest, and the alums are usually very personable and parents themselves, so they understand how you feel!

Did anyone else get a letter yesterday from Cornell that was seemingly only sent to applicants with legacy? It attached a freshman profile and a list of admissions contacts. “As I am sure you are aware, Cornell is an institution rich in history, and we are always interested when the children and grandchildren of Cornell graduates want to consider the university as they make their college plans”…was a little confused by this whole letter!
