Official Cornell Early Decision Class of 2018

Anyone else dying? So nervous for the results for ED. I can confirm that the third recommender doesn’t come up, although that seems to have been already established.

I’m getting more nervous each day. I keep checking my app status even though everything has been submitted. Was there a definite answer that December 12th is the date? I’d like to have a countdown! :)

^Some are saying Dec. 12 and some are saying Dec. 16, but no one really knows for sure. I guess we’ll all just have to wait for Cornell’s official word. I personally don’t think there’s much point in trying to predict the exact date, since it varies by year.

Anyone get a request for first quarter grades yet? Mine arent too bad but I hope they don’t ask for them :/

I agree, guessing probably won’t help. I think two years ago it was the 8th, if I remember correctly. Guess only time will tell. Does anyone know what an alumnus phone call means, if anything? Neutral or negative? I got one and although I have reservations about being accepted, I feel it would be counterintuitive to call rejected students, assuming they know who’s going to be accepted at this point in time. I did some research and it seemed as if it was neutral or positive but maybe it’s bias due to the kinds of people who are on this site. Any ideas to ease my mind would help. It’s been a dream for years now so I’m practically looking for positive sign. I digress, it’s probably all speculation at this point.

^The alumni have next to no sway in the admissions process. I had my “info session” today and the alumnus I spoke with told me he would write me a (I paraphrase) good report, but that he didn’t know if it would have much (if any) effect.

Do you think they have made any decisions yet?

^Even if they have, they won’t be shared with us for a few more weeks.

Wait so has anyone been asked for their first quarter grades yet? I feel like if the adcoms wanted them, they would ask about now

I contacted with my interviewer the other day and he told me that he had to submit the evaluation report before Dec. 2. What is the evaluation actually function for? I thought by that time the admission office would have made most decisions.

My son’s high school took the liberty of sending 1st quarter grades to all his EA schools even though Cornell said they had all the info needed. I wish they hadn’t because he started a little slow this year. He was also contacted by an alum last week, replied the next day or so and hasn’t heard back.

Why have I not been contacted by an Alumni? This is making me really anxious.

AJW–the alumni association only manages to interview approximately half of all applicants, ED & RD combined. Given the very tight timeframe for ED processing this year, I am guessing that they will not be able to interview half of the ED applicants. Wulawula is correct in that the evaluations are due Dec 2nd, so if someone has not contacted you yet, I really doubt you will be contacted.

As to the purpose of the interview and evaluation….the interview holds little weight but if the applicant were rude or didn’t respond to the interviewer’s attempts at contact, the interviewer would relay this in her evaluation. This interview stands very little chance of getting you into or keeping you out of Cornell.

Uh I kind of just found an e-mail from a cornell alum in my spam folder. It was sent 17 days ago, and asked me for dates and times when I was available. I didn’t notice it until now since it somehow ended up in spam. I only just found it because I was scouring my e-mail for any traces of info from Cornell, and voila! Should I actually respond now, or just pretend like I never got the e-mail?
P.S.
It was just the one e-mail. No follow-ups (not that I expect them to, they’re very busy people.)

I was “interviewed” (or whatever you’d like to call it) last night. He told me I had more questions than most people and seemed more than normally intrigued. He said he would write a letter to the admissions on my behalf and include all the information I told him. He specifically asked for ECs beyond my varsity sport (crew - i’m a coxswain). I also highlighted the independent research program I’m in with my school and how I submitted to Intel and another competition. I figured they had little say, but I think the prompt response and a few non-generic questions might get you a bonus point. I’m sure in the case of Indiankid96 it wouldn’t harm you. I’m sure they account for never receiving it. My mac actually flagged his email as junk but I was expecting it so I’ve been on high alert looking for it. The morning after the call I got a follow-up email saying I could ask any questions up until December 2nd. He stated that after this point they had to refrain from any communications with applicants. He didn’t write anything about the letter in the email but I assume they do this for almost all calls to gauge enthusiasm and response time for the admissions board. I agree these probably carry minimal weight, as many have stated before me, but I’ll take every little chance I can!

@indiankid96 If it were me I would respond and explain what happened. Maybe you can arrange to meet this weekend. Can’t hurt…could help. The alum might learn something that should be added to your application.

I checked my spam folder. No emails on interviews. Guess too late now.

@wulawula @quanlude
I am from Beijing,
I am applying to SHA the requirements and questions may be different for other schools so I wouldn’t know for sure. Where are you applying to?
For my interview, we just talked about why I wanted to study it and about my studies, extra curricular and future plans. It is really good in the sense you can ask them questions on their experience. Mine was really laid back and relaxed so it was not bad

I said ‘hello, I am…’ To my interviewer even though she is Chinese and we did the interview in English as well. I think you should stick with English as Cornell may want to use this as a way of ensuring your English proficiency.

Hi everyone, just wondering are there anyone applying to Human Ecology College? Is there anyone like me who just ED Cornell for the sake of securing an Ivy under the belt first, and planing to transfer to Upenn or Columbia next year if admitted?

As the decision date approaches, best of luck everyone!

@cicit123- NO, I hope there is no one like you :-X
